Dorset Plodder wrote:The problem with sending out this stuff on a daily basis is that everything is treated as propaganda. I believe that was RMs intention...not to inform the workforce of relevant facts. If they wanted to do that they should have condensed the information into manageable pamphlets that people would have read. Instead it was all treated as BS and consigned to File 13 by a lot of Posties. Even the interesting bits like how to order extra shares (hidden in the middle of that big red book)
A lot of people are also adverse to reading nowadays so is it any wonder that they ask questions, which may already have been answered in a RM letter, from a source they trust like RMC?
I don't think you'll find anyone including managers that doesn't think it's been overdone (being desk based I've been getting at least one e-mail every day on top of the printed stuff!). And yes some of it was selling a point of view but some of it was simply informational. I also think the pension material was some of the worst communication I've ever seen - totally unintelligible.
However, we've had a full range of communications from Courier, WTLL, posters, leaflets, pamphlets up to the big red book and for some people none of it seems to have gone in. As I say, some of the communications could have been better but there comes a point when people have to help themselves. I'm not saying I am surprised but you have to contrast the derision the "propaganda" receives and the delight expressed in ignoring it all with some people's misunderstanding and ignorance on the key issues.

I'm afraid you over estimate vox populi, 72% of joe public didn't agree with privatisation and so what support do you think they can offer
As a business that's meant to specialise in communications we are crap at communicating!
There is such a wide divide in this business between "Us" and "Them" that for a successful future RM really need to put in a LOT of effort to restore faith. The current climate of B & H and unrealistic workloads has a lot to do with Posties simply binning anything that comes from Management, it may be seen a cynical attitude but you've got to ask the question, "Who has fostered this cynical attitude amongst the workforce"? Most posties I know just want to turn up, do a reasonable days work and get paid for it!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

*The £300 is a specific sum being discussed under the proposed agreement for employees in CWU represented grades in Core Operations, Logistics, Engineers, Fleet Maintenance Services, RMSS and Royal Mail International. Separate negotiations will take place for other CWU grade employees within Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide as per current arrangements.

I also edited the 1st post of this thread with the highlights in a while back.
Just need 100% conformation (brain is not what it used to be)that there is no £300 before I do something for the front page of the site.

Discussed means not agreed as yet so you may go in loose all self respect and not gain anything in monetary terms while selling out your own shooting your selves in the foot is what I would call it.

Unfortunately the message is not getting through! There's still Posties (Probably thousands) out there that think they're going to get the money if they ignore the Strike! Pity Billy hadn't put something in the recent letter about the Ballot Results.

That's difficult logistically. The CWU would either have to pay to send it as PPI (which would cost several million) or try and book it as a door to door (which would cost a fortune and RM might refuse it anyway). Alternatively they would be looking at volunteers to go round every door and deliver them in their own time.
What you can't do is deliver non-Royal Mail items during your working hours. That's just a conduct case waiting to happen

However, it is part of the offer made by RM that the CWU has rejected and given that it's only payable to those who do not strike it's quite possible it won't be in the final agreement anyway. Don't spend it yet. The union rep should have known all that.
A colleague of mine asked a (very) senior manager about the amount of information (some say propaganda) that is being pumped out by RM. The answer was that it's because the facts are not getting through to people. Even given the huge cynicism about the material and the glee with which people announce they don't read it, it is hard to argue when so much of the debate is characterised by people not understanding the basics e.g the £300 offer, the post from the guy that said that the pension issue was that we had to make increased contributions etc.
That was a proposal in the recent past that was thrown out as a non starter by the union , it was on the table nearly 6 months ago and I do understand the debate.
