Your manager is sending an email asking for van sharing to come back?

Surely if everything goes to plan with the governments roadmap, then all restrictions will be lifted on June 21st?

I think my manager is. The walkers are having to walk between points and its causing some to have to cut off. To be honest I suspect a few are going in the van. Managers know but turning a blind eye coz it suits them!Acca Dacca wrote: ↑09 Mar 2021, 01:10Your manager is sending an email asking for van sharing to come back?

Re: When back to two in a van ?
Can I ask why a lot of people do not want van sharing to ever come back? Is it because they hope RM will bring back single duties hence bringing in more vans? Other than that reason its a pain in the bum having to walk out of the office for a long walk with a trolley whilst getting mail fed to you by the driver.

Our office is starting its revision process(structural) and we're told the new duties will be based on van sharing.

Because van sharing adds unnecessary stress and often results in disagreements in work ethic. One persons quick is anothers slow. When I was a driving floater I often found it was the case people would try take advantage of you and lob you their awkward bag packets or purposely go slow on a loop so you'd be inclined to help. One inevitably ends up baby-sitting the other (lost items/equipment, missed tracked/specials), which then leads to arguments with management and then tensions between colleagues. Very rarely you worked with someone who was honest and competent, at least in my experiences.postiewhite wrote: ↑16 Mar 2021, 10:01Can I ask why a lot of people do not want van sharing to ever come back? Once I moved to a single van duty it was much easier as I was in control of my own work and could work at my own pace. I knew roughly how long my work would take me and if I needed to leave mail or not. Actually, I frequently left mail and worked with some people who would intentionally try to get me in trouble by finishing loops quick and helping me, in order to get an early finish. A claim which is perhaps lacking in proof, but such inconsistent actions do raise suspicion.

Re: When back to two in a van ?
Hope it never goes back. Seems to be the lazy ones at my office who are wishing it would. they prefer to be credited for their partners hard work and ability to pick up the slack, whilst they go under the radar and do f**k all.
Why should drivers have more work put on them especially by their ‘partner’ who just can’t be f****d taking his own parcels? We are expected to do all the work for them whilst they stand on the corner and smoke another cig because they didn’t have time to do them..
How can increasing wage for drivers not be justified when it’s more work, more stress, more responsibility? If a parcel gets found in the van on return to office, who’s fault is it? It would be because “the driver didn’t write it down” like they didn’t have enough to do already. the non driver should be just as involved. There are only a select few non drivers with this attitude sadly. And who would be stuck going back out to deliver it whilst the other sneaks off home..
As a non driver, you can walk about like a zombie with a disengaged brain and not break a sweat, meanwhile I have to magic time out my ass for 3-7 parcels after each loop whilst the non driver will complain about waiting, or not being at the correct location at the same time they have been for the last 20 years.
So no, I don’t want to share vans again. Hopefully RM will realise the passenger seat is more useful to ram more parcels in rather then a throne for a lazy old fart to roll cigarettes.

Because you work for a delivery company? How can increasing wage for drivers not be justified
No offence but if you didn't want to drive why did you apply for the job?
It was kind of in the job description.

Re: When back to two in a van ?
Can you read? My rant wasn’t about having to drive, it’s about non drivers getting paid the same and doing less work. The fact the company has stopped non drivers joining shows they are obviously of less use.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 12:10Because you work for a delivery company? How can increasing wage for drivers not be justified

Re: When back to two in a van ?
You get paid by the hour not by what you do in those hours. Where would that logic stop? A cleaner does more physical work than you so should be paid a "cleaner" allowance? ?My rant wasn’t about having to drive, it’s about non drivers getting paid the same and doing less work.
If non drivers are not utilising their full hours that's up to management to address but the solution would not be to pay you more, the answer would be to pay them for the hours they work or get them to work more hours.
As you point out Royal Mail is slowly moving the workforce towards driver only staff. What would your extra payment be for then?
