...with a knock-on affect of mail arriving at MCs latter which then goes to DOs later. With more and more automation, as time goes on RM would with the right software be able to build walks each day with an end to fixed walkscitypostie wrote:Why's that then and how would it work? Don't think there would be a stampede of volunteers. Think the big cost savings will be hitting the mail centres for a change with all the money they are spending on these hubs

That'd be their ideal. No more fixed walks and your workload assigned day by day (lots of people will now say "that's impossible/unworkable/whatever" and conjure all sorts of reasons to justify why it will be impossible/unworkable/whatever, but I've learnt that people would rather delude themselves than think about outcomes that would be unpalatable to them - just look at the nonsense trotted out when 'everyone will have to drive' is mooted.SpacePhoenix wrote:With more and more automation, as time goes on RM would with the right software be able to build walks each day with an end to fixed walks
Mail delivered every other day Monday-Saturday, Sundays parcels and specials only
Everyone on delivery drives
No fixed walks
Early and late delivery shifts to allow reduced numbers of vans
Mail centres see shift pattern changes because the overwhelming majority of mail will be able to be accepted by delivery offices late (because early shifts can deliver what was basically what we'd regard now as 'yesterday's mail and then prep what arrives for the late shift after they've been on delivery while the lates prep later arriving mail for the morrow.
All the above is possible. That doesn't mean any of it will necessarily happen, but I think it would be worth people considering what any or all of it might mean for them.

If letters and flats end up being every other day then RM might potentially look into having a few MCs with equipment that could sequence flats and letters together, which would cut down in indoor work in DOsDGH wrote:That'd be their ideal.
