It works for DPD, it works for Yodel, it works for Amazon and DHL, Hermes and dozens of other couriers.

Why wouldn't it work for Royal Mail?
Not being nasty but the other couriers typically get EU migrants taking on their jobs at less wages than us or sometimes even below minimum wage but still more than in their own countries. In addition I think most of us posties would not want to deliver parcels in the dark or up to 2000 hours on a regular basis. Plus the public don't really want to answer the door in the dark. It's about quality of life and whether we want to bow & scrape to these slave drivers.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Vauxhall Combi vans :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy = bad back
I see today that Amazon now have some of their own vans, Vauxhall Combo’s they are not :Applause

No, most of the Amazon, DPD vans are actually self employed workers who have to rent the van from these companies. I mean, you couldn't make it up. Your van, your insurance payments, your petrol/diesel payments, your maintenance payments and you've GOT to advertise these bastards on YOUR van. Watch parcel force, that's exactly what's happening with them. I said this on a post last year and eventually it will come to RM. The gig job (or break your balls for below minimum wage with no pension, sickpay) is here to stay and their is no way RM can compete in the future paying higher wages and pension contributions and even come close to charging the same for sending a parcel. The only hope is that we will be leaving Europe, who started the end of the monopoly in the European union for mail but most other countries just ignored it. The only way is to walk out and get other unions together to do the same of the working man/woman is just going to get screwed more and more. No wonder the other European countries didn't want us to leave as all their state run industries are running out railways, electricity, water,Tnt (Rm deliver for them) while running down our workers conditions and f***ing off back to euroland with big bucks. Now we have euroland fat cats flying in one of two days a week (in RMs case) to screw the postal staff and then this once great industry into just another race to the bottom employer. In fact it you look on the official RM jobsite, they have been advertising for more staff in HR, Sheffield but only for dealing with temp/agency starting and declaring that all parts of RM are ready for casualisation including pay, admin, facilities, stores, in fact every dept. Something big is about to happen. Shower of s**t.

Average 1 oversize per 5 minutes, so thats 12 an hour, x 5 hrs = 60 parcels per shift.

They want to collapse 1 in 6 so in my office os/lat driver would need to do 3 walks worth of parcels. On a busy day one walk would get 50 parcels so three would be 150 parcels. Therefore not possible.
Except that it will be more like 20 parcels per hour rather than 12 and a longer delivery span than 5 hours.
We've always been told 20 an hour was the expected rate. You can do 30 if you're covering the same duty or duties near each other and you know where you're going. It's much more difficult if they're spread further apart and you're unsure where you're going.

Rural areas are unlikely to be affected by the new parcel strategy.
This is aimed at high density urban deliveries.

They'd still have to go to the hubs but I'm guessing that they'd get cross-docked at the inward MC

Unlikely for that to be the case. Presuming they can make it work it will be the whole of mainland UK.

In offices/areas that are predominantly rural it makes no sense to set up a separate parcel delivery network. Having someone drive 20 miles to a farm with a letter then someone else drive 20 miles with a parcel to the same farm would be crazy.

This strategy is allegedly supposed to pay for itself by reducing the time spent on delivery with large parcels, that doesn't work on a deep rural, neither does absorbing 1 in 6 rurals.,it's just common sense really.

I would add though that there's a big difference between a predominantly rural office in the middle of nowhere and a 'rural' in a town office that does a village and a dozen surrounding farms.

There are certain areas of the UK that are LAT exempt due to time and cost.
If the new parcel strategy is built on the LAT model then there will still be exceptions.

Probably for those offices it'll just end up with the large dumped in the normal packet sleeve. It won't be worth having a setup for large just for a few offices

Already spoke to LAT driver from a different office who said he was doing deliveries through my neck of the woods. Took him an hour and a half to deliver 2 parcels in the rural area of our office.
