Mail centres seem to have large amounts of agency staff so I suppose these could easily be lost.Binsey wrote:Yamr1 wrote:Royal mail lose about 5000 staff a year through retirement, people leaving..
The 20,000 will be over 4 to 5 year so shouldn't affect anyone
Depends on where the axe falls. If it mostly falls on Mail Centres , Network and Logistics you will notice.

The problem is some people just won’t listen to this advice. It only takes one person to run round a duty to prove it can be achieved in that time, so all of our efforts to save the job by “doing it properly” will mean nothing.Strong bull wrote:There will be no i repeat no redundancies especially if
People didn't start early
People used correct working methods lwt, deliver to neighbours ,van checks etc etc etc
People took there breaks
People stopped working there days off
Quite the opposite actually. Quite a few pt workers may then get full time contracts

Don't know about 'no redundancies' but it would make them think about it a lot harder

Except the duties are made according to agreed tools and not by how quickly anyone does them.Jpro747 wrote:

All this no jobs would be lost of everyone did the job properly is nonsense.
I "do the job properly" and finished about 90 minutes early on Tuesday.
How is that going to prevent job losses?
The only thing that saves jobs is having work.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I did the job properly on Tuesday and went 30 minutes over. Shows how much disparity there is between walks/different offices.clashcityrocker wrote:Except the duties are made according to agreed tools and not by how quickly anyone does them.Jpro747 wrote:

We have people in their sixties with only ten years service and people in their thirties with more than ten. To give you an example the last ten people employed by my office range from 18 to 55. As my previous post, its illegal to do it purley that way.
But why should someone who has been working there longer have any more entitlement to stay in employment over someone whos just started?, thats unfair and therefore could be classed as unfair dismissal.

Correct. They're not gonna waste money paying people off. Frankly, if redundancy was offered in our office they'd be a que as long as your arm breaking the doms door down to take it! They could easily find the savings they desire through natural turnover.Yamr1 wrote:Royal mail lose about 5000 staff a year through retirement, people leaving..

Politics is about scare tactics, mainly because it's effective. The idea unions don't engage in such tactics is naive in the extreme. Part timers are being targeted because the union know they're far less likely to be engaged in the dispute than their full time counterparts.clashcityrocker wrote:I think the CWU should be above using scare tactics.rambo1 wrote: What, you don't think the cwu are above scare tactics to get a strong yes vote?
It is one thing to say you believe the number of job losses won't be achieved through natural wastage and there may be compulsory redundancies if we don't stand up and fight now and another to start worrying certain groups of people with the threat of compulsory redundancy without any evidence to back it up.
We don't need to stoop to the politics of Farage and if we do we have already lost.

Absolute nonsense & bullshit, this is just as bad if not worse than the scare mongering Royal Mail itself employs to try & get people to vote no. I wouldn't have been paying attention either if this was the s**t they were being told.smok3y666 wrote:We had a union meeting stroke strike update thing this morning, anyone else have one? It was basically telling us all to make sure we had voted and every vote counts and that the younger ones in the office to make sure they vote because it is them RM will go after first should any redundancies come of the whole situation and RM get what they want. But from sitting there looking around most of the younger staff (not all) were chatting among themselves or on their phone or just generally not looking interested at all. So good luck to 'em. Then at the end of the meeting even though there was still 10-15 minutes of break left about 75% of our office ran back downstairs to get out on delivery. That about sums our office up. Moan their sacks off but when it comes to it........
The younger employees have no more to worry about than the older employees.

People seem to think that if there are any job loses it will be based on seniority ie last in, first out, I personally think that's a bit delusional.97gaz wrote:I disagree that it's unfair. Given the rise of data collection it wouldn't shock me if they looked at performance when it came to potentially making any redundancies.

How the hell do you finish 1.5hrs early on a Tuesday?!! What on earth hours do you work? We have 6hrs 50 mins on a Tuesday , no chance of finishing on time let alone early. Your office needs a good sort out and it will definitely get one. You could / should be fully preping another walk up in your duty time.clashcityrocker wrote:Except the duties are made according to agreed tools and not by how quickly anyone does them.Jpro747 wrote:

Jeez, this dispute sounds like one that started in this country in june 2016......that still hasn't been resolved and thats gonna leave us all worse off. Plenty of lies told back then too. The top folk (govt, royal mail or cwu) won't lose out. The ordinary folk (us) will be the losers on both counts. IMHO.ThatsNotPlumb wrote:Absolute nonsense & bullshit, this is just as bad if not worse than the scare mongering Royal Mail itself employs to try & get people to vote no.
