Whilst this might sound plausible it's a load of nonsense, I wouldn't be surprised if HMRC told you that as they are prone to mistruths but the Royal Mail helpline certainly shouldn't be saying it.barncopxx wrote:I got a demand for £52.80 this week. I phoned not only HMRC but RM HR as well as my take on it is that I have never had any My Bundle stuff so RM should have stopped the right tax for what I earned and passed it to HMRC.
I was told by both, that it is because every 7 years we have a week 53 (as we did this year). Each year HMRC estimate our next tax year total earnings in advance, then takes off our tax free allowance, leaving what they estimate will be our tax due for the year on the balance. This total for the year is then divided by 52 as we are paid weekly and the answer is used to generate our tax code. BUT, as this is over 52 weeks, the week 53 is over and above and therefore not included in the estimate, hence the underpayment which is around £1 per week. Whether this is right or wrong I don't know but simply conveying what I was told.

Dental Insurance has never been tax free throughout the period it's been offered by Royal Mail, if you check the small print on the Reward Gateway you'll see an explanation - you will make 12% NI savings but it's always been taxable as benefit in kind.Babytel2017 wrote:I got one too for my bundle dental insurance: if government changed rules in 2016 why are we still being sold the tax free line??

My Bundle document for 18-19 clearly shows which benefits have which Tax/NI benefits - dental insurance saves NI but not Tax (all the benefits
save NI according to the document I have apart from 'Financial Wellbeing').
The only ones listed that save Tax are Childcare Vouchers, Cycle to Work.
There is a comment in the 'Car purchase' column that states you may save tax but 'Depends on the actual car you have chosen'.

Just got one for £101... I've never had anything at all from MyBundle so I haven't got a clue how or why I owe it.

I remember a few years back my sister got a demand saying she owed over £400 (not working for RM)
She only earned £300 a week so the tax supposedly owing was a huge amount, she questioned it with HRMC and they got back to her with a ''recalculation''and said it was actually only £300... she further challenged that and they said it was only £150 owed... she still wasn't happy so continued to take it further and the upshot was that they eventually decided she'd actually been overpaying her tax and she ended up with a rebate of £220!!
Yet if she hadn't challenged it in the first place they would have just taken £500 off her that she never even owed.

So am I the only one who finds themselves owing tax despite having NO deals through Mybundle?
Or are there others in the same position as me?

Sorry, only just noticed mid-thread that you added you've not had any ''benefits in kind''... but it seems like all the other contributors to this thread who are owing tax have had Mybundle deals which explains why they owe it.Dindin wrote:Why do you think I started this thread?wacko74 wrote:So am I the only one who finds themselves owing tax despite having NO deals through Mybundle?

Have you queried it with HMRC?
