If you can live track the PDA, why couldn’t our managers find a missing pda from a postie a couple of weeks back. He didn’t know where he lost, and they didn’t know how to find it. Is that managerial incompetence or is the PDA not actually tracked live

Our manger looks on the computer most days and can see were you are and it is live. when you get back to the office he makes silly coments about how it had taken 35 min to do a loop. or why did you stop at your house for 10 min. he looks on the van tracking.eastie wrote:He should have said "Ring me back in 13 minutes when I finish my break"HTPostman wrote:A colleague of mine had a phone call last year from his line manager asking why he'd been stood inside business premises for 27mins (he was having a chat and a cup of tea).

If the pda is not on, it can`t be tracked.Chalky13 wrote:If you can live track the PDA, why couldn’t our managers find a missing pda from a postie a couple of weeks back. The battery won`t last that long, probably 2 days top, plus I assume they can track just logins, the pda logs off the person who used it after few hours.

We've had a couple of people taken in to the manager's office and presented with PDA actuals from the previous day and questioned robustly about why they were substantially off-route, in one case, and why the other person's PDA was stationary for well over an hour at their home address (which happened to be on their delivery).
The DOM has also been muttering about changing lapsing plans for certain deliveries and looking at potential allocation of new-builds (of which we have a lot in my town) to deliveries not necessarily adjacent to the developments based upon PDA actuals.
I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of what a DOM can and can't do with PDA actuals, but for those who dismiss them out of hand, in some offices, at least, they are being scrutinised with a view to utilisation by the management.

Yes, I know it won’t be tracked if not on, but it was reported that day and they still couldn’t find it.Janet Brum wrote:If the pda is not on, it can`t be tracked.Chalky13 wrote:If you can live track the PDA, why couldn’t our managers find a missing pda from a postie a couple of weeks back. It's rubbish that a PDA cannot be tracked if not turned on....It most certainly can be as it has an internal battery that allows the PDA to ping the server.
We had 2 PDA's go missing recently and as you cannot simply order a replacement the process was to contact IT who gave us the serial numbers and IMEI numbers.
These numbers are then used in the Precom programme which will then show where it is and also the details of anyone currently logged into it or anyone who has been logged into it if it is not currently in use.
We found our 2 PDA's being used in the mail centre.
Can i also thank everyone that has helped take this thread way off track. Made my original post so worthwhile

Impossible. MC logins don't work on DO PDAs and vice-versa. Any given PDA is "tagged" to a single office and can't be used by another officeMezza wrote:We found our 2 PDA's being used in the mail centre.

been in this situation myself, in the end the way i looked at it, theres upsides and downsides of both indoor and outdoor. Sure outdoor can go home most times earlier, but then being indoors i didnt have to deal with the bad weather, or the heavy days when it was a slog. Im not the one paying out for hours they didnt work, so am i out of pocket ? no. If the outdoor workers finished on time, does that make MY job any better ? no.Mezza wrote:
As an indoor staff member (RLE & Callers) i am well beyond peed off at the amount of hours staff are getting paid for but not having to work.
Today for example about 30% of the office had finished and gone home before i finished at 1pm. Some of them were done by 12pm. I start at 5am and they start at 6am. So today alone some have made 2 hours.

Not sure about the mail centre pda’s but you definitely can use another office PDA. We’ve found them in yorks and use themSpacePhoenix wrote:Impossible. The "Office Location" drop-down only has the option for the MC. If you are using PDAs that are proper to another DO then your quality figures might be down as things might not be showing as being done by your DO.number one wrote:Not sure about the mail centre pda’s but you definitely can use another office PDA. And the DO PDAs only have their paired office so although you could use it elsewhere it would have to be logged into it's assigned location. The "Office Location" drop-down only has the option for the MC.
Makes you wonder how much of what you read on here is just bullshit.
As for the thread going off track Mezza, you start one of these threads every couple of months complaining about delivery guys finishing early while you have to work your hours. It's been done to death.
I will give you my honest opinion, most of the guys who slog their way around the streets in the pissing rain with dodgy knees and ankles would bite your hand off for an indoor job and wouldn't give a s**t if it meant working all of their hours....think on.

Our PDAs have the 3 local offices as options to choose so could be used in any of them offices. We also receive messages sent out to the other office PDAs about deliveries and stuff happening in their officesSpacePhoenix wrote:The "Office Location" drop-down only has the option for the MC. I was merely stating what has happened with missing pda's in my office. Take it or leave it i really couldn't care less.Woody Guthrie wrote:And the DO PDAs only have their paired office so although you could use it elsewhere it would have to be logged into it's assigned location. The "Office Location" drop-down only has the option for the MC.

Think on what exactly?
The duty cover position has been vacant for over 5 years. Nobody wants it. .
As previously stated i have done more than a good few years on deliveries, i have dodgy knees and ankles along with a history of severe PF and can say without a doubt there are good and bad points for either deliveries or indoor.
The subject may well have been done to death, but clearly your not bothered if someone is working up to 6 months a year less than you for the same money?
I realise it doesn't apply to all delivery staff and have never said it did. You seem to miss the point that i am not in any way pointing the finger at delivery staff, it's managements inability to resource efficiently.
If my posts seem repetitive to you, then don't read or comment on them. Why wouldn't they seem repetitive when the same thing is still going on despite policies supposedly being implemented that would have stopped it.

You sound bitter mate , don’t worry about other people, if you don’t like it , go back on delivery or get another job!!!Mezza wrote:I was merely stating what has happened with missing pda's in my office.
