Of course you can make postie b go faster. They either need retraining or telling that with the actuals being half arsed and lazy isn't an option anymore. If there is no standard for outdoor work, that's ludacrous. If you've got two people working to rule, and one is taking longer than the other on the same duty there's an issue with the other postie. Saying basically that doesn't matter so said postie gets paid more for doing the same work is nonsense frankly. It's no better than ghosting.Woody Guthrie wrote:The heat is now on DOMs to justify all overtime using actual data, if you think after Rico's announcement of poor productivity and underperforming profits that isn't going to be ramped up you're kidding yourself.
If a DOM is asked why postie A is booking an hour while postie B is finished an hour early what are his/her options?
You can't make postie B go faster, there are no standards for outdoor work so unless he's sitting in a cafe for an hour the only option left open is to address the guy who's finishing an hour early. It doesn't matter whether you think it's fair or not, that's a pointless argument. It's simple a case of no other option. Even if postie B suddenly starts doing the job properly and finishes on time it's still a better outcome for the DOM because he'll get less grief from his boss for an overspend than he will for an overspend AND an underutilisation of paid hours.

Does the mail in your office fail now?
Why is it suddenly going to fail.
It's an empty threat to say that the docket kings will suddenly stop wanting overtime just because they have to actually work the hours they're paid. Most of them couldn't hold out a week without 30 hrs of OT in their pay packet. That's the downside of living beyond your means, life on a basic wage isn't too pleasant.

How could there be a standard for outdoor work?Of course you can make postie b go faster. How would it work?
A 60 year old and a 20 year old?
No two duties are the same?
No two days are the same?
Medical issues?
Physical fitness and ability?
Please explain how that would work I'm really interested.
In order to avoid all kinds of discrimination and variables you would need to set the bar so low it would be pointless.

So if somebody is milking it in order to bag more overtime that's fine? What about old boys and girls that are nearing retirement vs young 20 year olds. Some people are coming back 2-3 hours early in our office still whilst others go over and book OT. I really can’t see my manager doing anything about it though.postietom wrote:Of course you can make postie b go faster. I’m cool with that, I get done near enough on time every day, do the job properly no rush. it’s only the runners that won’t be happy. I feel sorry for my DOM he’s going to have a tough job trying to send them back out.LaggyBand wrote:This guy is absolutely on the mark with what is going to be happening, no doubt, no point fighting it on forums, watch what happens and enjoyWoody Guthrie wrote:The heat is now on DOMs to justify all overtime using actual data, if you think after Rico's announcement of poor productivity and underperforming profits that isn't going to be ramped up you're kidding yourself.

The difference is if someone goes slow to bag more overtime then they did more work than a postie who’s really quick and does two rounds within duty time.postietom wrote:So if somebody is milking it in order to bag more overtime that's fine? RM measure delivery work done by TIME, not volume, and they don’t give a toss what you or I think about that.

Obviously of you've got somebody nearing 60, it's difficult. The seniority rule means they'll probably have the easiest duties anyway, certainly the case in my DO.
I just hate how this conversation is always runners v the rest who just do the job properly like it's that black and white. There of those (I consider myself one) who do the job properly, meaning I start on time, take breaks, don't run, don't speed and generally care about my work; I do it right rather than fast. There are runners too. But there's also people who are just useless I'm afraid. They're either slow through incompetence or they're just lazy and like the overtime.

As will mine, however if I was in their shoes I would simply be telling my boss “look I can bring this in exactly how you want but the absolute best you’re going to get is break even on the money plus it’s gonna take a year for the mentality to stabilise, going to need to tough it out until people get desperate for the overtime again, the new “clean” overtime, are we doing it then, yeah?”postmanzach wrote:I’m cool with that, I get done near enough on time every day, do the job properly no rush. it’s only the runners that won’t be happy. That’s what will be said, they have no choice if they are committed to calibrating our work to the PDA (benefits are too numerous to turn down)

we get it all the time , our DOM is alwaus saying that postman x is an hour faster than us.
But they come in 30 mins early miss their 20 min break and take shortcuts. that's the hour difference but the DOM isn't interested in that
