You’ll get an automated warning if you haven’t logged in to your PDA say, one minute after your start time. Then you get another minute (depending on distance from PDA charge point) to scan your first port of call, for example the IPS frame or your duty frame.

It really is that simple.

Surely it isn't that hard to clock in on time? I used to do it years ago. You made sure you always arrived 5 mins early and had plenty of time to clock in. If you were late my particular firm would give you 5 minutes leeway, anything over 5 mins and they docked your pay 15 mins. They only did it once to me and I got the message. It's not rocket science. :cuppa

Any false recording of finish time on signing out sheet can be flagged up quite easily, I would think. That said finishing too early would be a lovely problem to have!!
That's nowt to do with clocking out, it's just been introduced at our office. It's something to do with volume of mail going to the mail centre from collection on delivery. Hence why you only have to do it if you collect on delivery.

And how exactly do they know the volume by you scanning that barcode?
I’ll tell you why this jas been introduced, it’s because people have been logging off their PDA before they get back to the office. When you scan that code it places you in the office so they know exactly when you got back.

Its just confirm the collections have been done. Duties without collections on them dont scan it

Clocking in and out would solve the problem of managers turning a blind eye to people not coming back in to the office after delivery and some using their own cars to go out in so they don't have to come back. The current method of signing in and out is abused daily out our DO with many not signing in or out at the correct times and a lot not even signing out and that includes managers not signing in and out.

One of the last places I worked at before coming to work in hell was a swipe card to sign in and out plus you had to use it when going for breaks or lunch to prove you'd taken them when they were due. Unfortunatly things like that will never be used at RM because its too simple and would mean managers would have to work for once to check everyone was doing what they were supposed to do when they were supposed to do it.

Quite frankly its the most backwards and out of date company I've ever had the misfortune of working at.

I can't see the problem with that. :hmmmm We were told recently by a visiting Stand In Manager NOT to log off the PDAs until you were basically ready to go home. The reason being if you did log off after you'd scanned your last packet/post box (which TBH I used to do simply so I didn't forget to log off :d'oh!) The PDA Actuals would think that's when your duty had finished. He said just to be on the safe side wait until you get back and then it would be a true reflection of the hours you'd worked. Made sense to me so that's what we now do. :cuppa

If everyone worked 100% correctly and to time then they’d see the job cannot be done in duty time
If everyone worked efficiently in Royal Mail including managers we would probably need 20% fewer staff.

I don’t know how it is in your office but in mine we have to rush around just to finish on time. There’s no time for a break on 90% of duties here.
If I work how Royal Mail want, use a trolley, scan every 2D I see, scan every foreign packet, take my break etc, I end up bringing 2 loops back come my finish time.
Then my friend you bring back/claim o/t, if you do the job as required take your breaks and start on time we end up with more jobs less part time duties and a more relaxed workforce.
