Corrupt Reps...
No not a rep and I dismissed nothing I merely made a suggestion.jaydotz90 wrote:TrueBlueTerrier, I take it you are a union rep involved in the corruption. Your dismissing everything, please tell me the benefits!
I take it you think anyone who disagrees with you is corrupt. Go on twitter storms much.
But I'll bite with facts
1. Only people in the Delivery Function get the Delivery supplement.
2. It's the highest functional supplement. MCs get £8.
3. It has nothing to do with delivery of D2Ds.
4. You get paid it even if you have no D2Ds
5. You get paid it when on leave.
A point of personal fact - I disagreed with the change and voted against the agreement that stopped D2D payments.
If you think its acceptable to insult someone by calling them corrupt just because they disagree with you then I respectfully suggest that becoming a rep isn't for you. Your own members will disagree with you despite your best intentions and efforts and yet you still have to treat them with respect.

Also the proper name for "Union Grant" is "honorarium payment" - that will help you in your search and whether your rep gets it or not.

Corrupt Reps...
Nothing like a big generalisation to taint all the hard working reps who have the most thankless job in the office. Until recently reps got nothing and were actually out of pocket because of all the calls they had to make to members and to Area Rep etc. You get about £75 per year now. That will take little more than 2 weeks for a WPC to make and maybe half a week for a ghost buncer to make. Neither generally make a difference to the office. However, a WPC can only do tasks that the DOM gives them, so isn't their fault if they don't do anything for the money. All I will say is that being on the outside and criticising is so easy as I have done it, until someone asks you to step up and it doesn't take long before you totally respect any rep that takes it on. Maybe it's because it's human nature to have so many different opinions to any one issue, or the calls you take from members and Area Reps in the evening and when you are on leave or rest week. Or maybe coming in on your rest week to fight a disagreement to get members made up. Maybe even taking a big risk in walking out with your members because of a terrible manager and knowing Royal Mail will blame you for it. Please don't generalise. I try not to judge anybody unless I have walked in their shoes.I like tof try and make a difference and enjoy helping my members if I can. You won't get a lot of thanks as it's human nature to moan, but it's easy to get rid of a rep if the office really think they are rubbish, but you should be prepared to show that you can do better.

Corrupt Reps...
We are currently on our 2nd stand in rep, if the members are true to form we will be without union representation within a few months. The amount of abuse and baseless accusations levelled at Union bods by clueless conspiracy nuts is unbelievable. Management DO try to make reps look like they're getting favours to provoke the members. One Union rep was accused of getting special treatment when being prep tested which goes some way to show that some folk are looking for any excuse to have a go. Some of the misunderstanding that can occur may have something to do with the gap between people's perception of what a reps job is and what it actually entails.
Well that was all disjointed as its two half remembered posts that I deleted in error and I should be in bed.
It's a s**t and thankless task trying to keep people, some of who should and DO know better, out of trouble and in a job.
If you think your reps a crook go to Division they'll sort it out.

In my branch we took the decision years ago for the honorarium payment to be paid into branch funds. Therefore no Rep in my branch gets any so called payment for being a Rep.This is exactly why there are fewer and fewer volunteers to become Reps and with people like this around you can't blame them.

Think the problem with being a rep is too much time is spent chasing what managers should be doing anyway. Isn't it what they're paid for. Staffing, holidays, back to work interviews, breaks, overtime. That's before they even look at workload and lapsing. Then managers constantly try and undermine rep asking people in early, so can finish early, ghost overtime the list goes on. Encouraging job/finish, so everyone has back up if rep asks them to take a break.
Reps will always have thankless job because let's face it, majority of managers are useless. Or are they ??

Our rep has been on light duties for 12/18 months.now he has decided that he isn’t going back on delivery and he will be on a 4 day week working 4 hours a day.
To make this work, his duty which is a prime 1.will go to a part timer on 20 hours a week who will come in and deliver it.his 4 hours a day consists of throwing up the duty and union business ?.
How can this be right.apart from the fact that the duty should go up on the board for everyone to have an opportunity to apply for it.Why are the management so keen to bend over for this “postman” that doesn’t post.
Has this happened elsewhere ? And is there anything that can be done about it.

The answer is simple, complain to your area/division rep. But remember, you may not know the full facts about the reps medical history.

Privacy of medical records and the punishment for unwarranted disclosure.
The Equality Act and how it pertains to reasonable adjustment.
The Way Forward agreement and how it pertains to selection of applicants for duties - this may indeed help your position.
Managing the Surplus Framework agreement and how it pertains to this.
The various agreements on release time.
If you would be so kind and come back and post how well your research is going I would be grateful, after all, you may indeed be correct in all your assumptions but without research and action by yourself, carping about it on an internet forum will only assuage your frustration so far.

Corrupt Reps...
The problems occurring in a delivery office are not purely down to corrupt reps but many staff like me included are being led to believe that they are turning a blind eye to management failings. Now I know that is a challenge in itself (no pun intended) given that management teams have directives from above that are designed to constantly change our working environment. But what I find most frustrating is when managers don't seem bothered when duties are not being delivered or tracked items are being left. Surely, the rep should be ensuring that managers are accountable for this?? See, I spoke to the Unit rep about 2 duties that had not been delivered the other day and he told me that they haven't failed because 2 loops on each frame had gone!! So, what about the 4 or 5 loops on each frame which hadn't gone??? Oh well, they don't class that as a "failed delivery" he says. Ok, what about the dozen tracked items still left - has that not failed?? What about a couple of Local Collect items that haven't been touched?
So this rep then spouts off about the challenges that managers are facing regarding staffing (or lack of it) and the fact that they are not supposed to be doing posties work instead relying on posties doing overtime. And this sort of answer really does make my blood boil. The reason why staff don't really want to do overtime is because they are either too busy doing more indoor prepping or the daily lapse which was originally supposed to end in summer. Surely, the fact that managers can't manage is something that really needs to be called into question. What are they doing when we are all out delivering apart from supposedly tracking our movements on their fat ar$es?? Do any of the more senior managers know or are they too busy thinking up bigger schemes that will be marketed, read aloud at WTLL and ultimately forgotten about.
Also, I can't see anything beneficial happening with the shorter working week other than it leading to more problems, more items not being delivered and more managers being shuffled around different offices. Other than the few nuggets who come in early and readily give up an hour of their precious time for free it will actually have a very negative effect on staff by expecting them to do more work in less hours. I predicted as much months ago. Where are those super duper machines that is going to do all our indoor prepping work for us, prep our households and do our redirections?? All that is going to happen is either staff claiming overtime on their own deliveries or rather thinking of the second option like me - 'sod this for a game of soldiers, let the management team sort it out' because the shorter working week is not designed for us to claim overtime on top of.
To make matters worst, I then had the misfortune to read the courier today and it talks about 4 hour delivery slots, delivering all the D2Ds every week etc etc.... and I thought to myself what planet do Royal Mail actually live on?

Can’t even go to Area or division rep as he’s just as corrupt as the rest. Anyone who takes on the job of local office rep & tries to do things the proper way soon gets wore down to the point of resignation.. Sorry to say it lads but the union is bent, there may be a few good reps out there but only speaking from experience here.
