Given how bad the snow and ice was then, RM should have really just closed every office (all types) for the Thursday and the Friday, maybe even the Saturday as wellCelgar wrote:The Met Office issued 'red weather warnings' both in Scotland and Devon/Cornwall during the recent snowy weather. I think this warning was either unprecedented or hadn't happened for many years. DOMs have to do their own assessment as well but they should have taken serious notice of any 'red' warnings in their area as well.

If you notice, financial comes before safety and quality. Bunch of money grabbing c...s. I remember when nothing was left in the office. Now it seems as if they don't give a s**t. The papers and wider media need to know about moyas great leading of this one proud service that leaves first class mail in frames for days. Should that not be the union. Then again there nothing like the union I once new. Sad.

On the shop floor in delivery offices its the management culture that needs to change.
Honestly, if staff want to leave a loop or so on their duty because they don't want to work any overtime then managers need to respect that and deal with it accordingly instead of trying to bully and cajole staff into taking the work. The job has changed now to what it used to be. Postal staff now deliver more bags of mail and packets than ever before, and we are also doing collection duties. On busy days, managers must surely know that the 'overrunning procedure' will be employed on a regular basis, so they shouldn't be burying their heads in the sand pretending it doesn't exist. What managers should be doing is being out on the streets helping postal staff completing their deliveries and maintaining our USO instead of documenting what they are documenting in their offices.
The Workplace coach role sounds like the business wants managers to go out and deliver and I don't care if some staff think that managers should not be paid more for doing our job. Managers get paid more because they are responsible for ALL the duties being cleared, whether they have to pay someone on overtime to do it, whether they need to use an agency guy to do it or whether they have to do it themselves. If walks are failing in the section and/or packets are not getting delivered - who do you think is responsible at the end of the day?

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
