DOING THE JOB PROPERLY

Interested-seeker wrote:Not completely relevant to this thread, but if we want to protect our jobs we need to fight against companies that want to do E-billing. We can do our bit by checking our online accounts with our banks, energy companies, etc and make sure that we have selected a preference for paper billing. Natwest have just notified me online that they have automatically put me in for e-billing, but that I can change this after the 20th October which I plan to do.
How desperate is that.

Will you stop buying milk at the supermarket and find a milkman as well.

Why don't you cancel your broadband and this website and start communicating by letter instead ?

But it seems almost impossible to effectively orchestrate in my eyes.
Anything orchestrated can be classed as industrial action. If you were to say to staff that you think doing the job properly is a great idea that saves jobs ( not sure if it does really ) that would be fine, If you were to tell members from Monday I want you all to start doing the job properly that would most likely be deemed industrial action. Of course in both cases you would need to explain to them first exactly what you mean by doing the job properly.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I think what Fish means is that if all the office suddenly start working differently to what has been their norm then this could be classed as an act of industrial action. Royal Mail would certainly be looking for the ringleaders of this action.
To do your job properly has always been a sensible step to cover your back and justification of what you have achieved if you are one who works to your time. If you all do this without it being instigated by any individuals, then Royal Mail would find it difficult to prove any illegal industrial action.

No need to explain it is just work your contractual hours and don't cut corners because you will be sacked this company will not return favours for any of you.

It’s a shame nothings gone back to having input on how the job should be done,so called management wanting things done properly and by the book and most important having the time built in to do just that, rounds tested again and not done on a wing and a prayer, and those that can knock two hours off your round are to be applauded and that’s the so called bench mark to aim for,it’s hard sometimes to dig your heels in and do the job to the letter while they look at you with content and utter the words “where the hell did you get to as you finish nearly bang on time.so called big rounds set in and out and back and home before the small rounds, and so it goes on week in week out,god it’s boring,,but that’s office banter, and it has its place I guess.and the no extra vans this xmas is going to be such fun and extra work no doubt,I guess as ever some units have abused this facility and everyone now has to suffer.

We have a manager who ONLY makes tea. Like it’s his actual job

They do for some managing is a concept even making good tea would be progression beyond that on their own is incapable of doing when they say sack the tea boy. He/She is going to your office to balls it up even more than it is already!

No need to be rude.

Maybe it is desperate but I'm right in thinking that e-bills/online statements and the like are the biggest threat to our jobs as we know it.

Ok fair enough, there aren't everywhere. But in my case it's a 30 minute drive each way to the depot so there are lots of places closer than going back but I know there will be places like yours where that can't happen obviously.
I think you've taken the literal rather than purposive approach to my point.

The point was, there are likely many things you could do that are correct procedure and that would result in a longer delivery.

And for some people without toilets, going back to depot is the official solution. Other ones that may instead apply to you include doing van checks, weighing bags, and trying several neighbours waiting a good amount of time for each.

My point exactly. Those pesky legal ramifications, eh?
