The DOM's barely have enough work in their role to justify their own existence, let alone needing to pass on certain tasks to the pointless WPC's

I have been a workplace coach for over 10 years, no one else applied for the job and no one else seems to be interested in doing it now. It's not all about training new entrants, in the last year delivery staff have gone through COLOD and have begun to use the new PDAs, its the coachs role to do the training. Like it or not the job is becoming more customer focused and more innovations are coming in to improve ´ the customer experience'
Coaching is also one of the 3cs and it helps that a good coach will stop the conduct code being applied if the right help is given. I reckon I spend 30 to 40 mins helping out most days, I'm the first person people come to with any problem and the last to leave to go on delivery and I think the allowance represents a fair reward for the effort I put in.

All the people who seem so concerned about saving RM money, here is a couple of suggestions.
Why dont YOU volunteer to go pt to save the company some money or work unpaid overtime to ease YOUR worries about the company's budget, rather than volunteer other people to lose money.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Managers & 1 plans pets. The future is grim for those in the role unless they like adding to a colleagues conduct code.
I've had a glimpse at the future for them & its fked up!
Hopefully it doesn't all pan out.

If more WPCs were like yourself then perhaps the criticisms levelled against them would be considerably less. It does appear that a large number of WPCs across the country are doing very little to justify the allowances paid to them.

In my office the Work Place Coach comes in early, doesn't take his breaks and is generally regarded as a runner. He did give training on the new PDAs - all 2 minutes of it - followed by us signing a sheet to say we have been comprehensively trained. Most of the time he does no more than any other postie and far from being last out the door because he is helping his colleagues, he is one of the first to get out.

No problem with people earning money so long as they are EARNING it , not quite sure why your asking people to work unpaid overtime and go down to part time. Why would anyone offer to do that when we have WTC's receiving money for doing nadda.

I am a WPC and i am always happy to help people out if they are unsure about anything to do with delivery, scanning, collections etc. I would much rather spend a few minutes of my time with each person helping them then for the OPG to do something wrong and have a lino come down on them like a ton of bricks. There are other things coming the WPC way like 'in process checks' and 'customer complaints' but then again i would prefer to have a casual chat with the OPG to fix any problems than have a lino deal with it. As a WPC i see my role as helping anyone not get into trouble that could put their job at risk.

Plenty of people on the thread seem happy to be taking money off wpc.
Offering wpc to lose money, so my comment seems fair enough to me.

Let's start taking money off people who finish early, they are getting money for doing nothing if they finish & go home early.
Let's take London weighing off people they are getting money for doing nothing.
Lets take paid breaks off everybody that's money for doing nothing.
I could go on, music to the ears of those who think we have it far to good :d'oh!

I agree with what GB93 is saying to an extent, for all those who are critcising WPC what is your SUGGESTION to replace them or to improve how they work?

Also I find it ironic how you can call them an uneeded expense, how the money would be better spent elsewhere etc, they should only get paid whilst training someone.... counting pennies like you work For Moya Greene or the rest of the asshats sucking Royal mail dry on behalf of the shareholders, and then have the nerve to call the WPC a manegerial wanabee, for having the good sense to claim an measly £30 out the company once a week.

I'm from the school of 'don't count another man's pockets until you can count his problems', plus i'm a union man so I don't believe in posties being turncoats and making managements job easier by making these type of suggestions, because today it's 'get rid of the workplace trainer supplement they don't earn the money ', tommorow it's 'get rid of the paid meal breaks, not eough people take them' etc... not too far down the line a job at Royal Mail is no better than job working for Yodel.

If the WPC is no good at your office then take it up with your union/ management. But we do our WPC colleagues nationwide a disservice by making these kind of broad generalisations.

I was a WPC for ten years, I'd like to think i contributed to a successful office by training some very good OPG's.
Within the last few years management have let the standards of training slip tremendously, while expecting everybody to work longer and harder.
Hence a new starter arrives enthusiastic about the job at first, then after a few weeks they become disheartened as management harrass and bully .
Performance issues are the managements only concern, with training put on the back burner.
