if you cant fail to notice nothing from the union very quiet as usual doomed if it was the rmt we would be out already why wait for royal mail to work out when we will lose our money lets get out now but it will not happen as our union know that so it will be a token gesture strike best to take the money as it is going to happen thats why the union is so quiet

It's a yes from me. I'd rather be a day's pay down every week for a while (which can be made up if willing to work overtime) Than struggle to make ends meet in retirement.
The pension forecast they sent us yesterday also included the state pension, will that be around in 20/30 years? I'm not so sure.

Take what money? If you're taking about the £750 it's already your money, it's your pension they intend to rob to pay it.slinder123 wrote:best to take the money as it is going to happen thats why the union is so quiet
Apart from 1971 which I guess would be before your time we've never ended up with a worse deal after strike action than what was on the table before hand even if the improvement was not earth shattering so I'll tell you what, you take what's on offer now and we'll fight for a better deal and when we do get a better deal don't forget to let the rest of us know what to do with your share.

That's why the CWU is pushing for a joint pension for all, we get a worse one (and even the current one is not a golden one) and the new staff (not PT/FT
Its all over the forums so not sure if you missed it, or just playing devil's advocate.

That's what RM want though, a divided workforce, PTs vs FTers, for situations like this. You have to look beyond it though, because as soon as the union is divided we're screwed.gary1975 wrote:How can there be solidarity while there is a two tier work force .a lot of pt staff will not strike for the golden pension brigade

I agree with your point. A lot of "Senior" Posties (in my DO) don't live in the "Royal Mail Real World" let alone the "Real World Outside". Most don't give a toss about anyone else in the office, especially PT staff.kingeric wrote:
Work to rule or overtime ban won't work either. I'm happy with 39 hours a week.I don't want or need anymore. But there are guys on 25 hours in my office who regularly do overtime to bring them up to the 39 hour mark or thereabouts.
Why are these guys going to take a cut for something that doesn't involve them.
Quick question for the foolish comments. How hard are you trying to get these part timers on full time contracts like the rest of us? Because as far as I can see there's a lot of older served posties looking for the newer ones to help them on this issue but how many are trying to help those newer guys on getting the same terms as what we already have
One particular incident I remember was a FTer complaining to a PTer that he was going to dip out on 3 hours SA because they were going to stop one of his collections. He was getting 15 hrs a week SA (on top of any overtime) and he was complaining to a PTer on a 20 hour contract! FFS these Dickheads do not know when they've got it good. I'm just glad we only deliver mail and I don't have to rely on the idiots for anything important.

If anyone's worried about the shortfall they could start saving up a "War Chest" by putting a few quid away each week. We've got a while yet before anything happens.Rumple wrote:It's a yes from me. As for including the Government Pension...Why did they do that? It's got bugger all to do with RM. I suppose it just makes you think you'll have more money when you retire. Knock that off and suddenly you lose about £11K....then the RM deal doesn't look so good.

As has been pointed out for most of those affected the state pension will not kick in at 65 ( if it even exists in its present form ) as has been "suggested" by royal mail and they may have to survive on their royal mail pension alone for at least 2-3 years. That's a far more frightening proposition which will quickly eat up any meagre savings you might have by then.

, and leave it to Moya to explain that to the fat cats .
It ends up pretty pointless and we shaft ourselves. I would much rather us go out for a week or go out till we get what we want rather than go out on a tuesday when it's quiet and then shafts ourselves by making Wednesday a harder day!
Or even worse go out Tues one week, weds the next etc etc. Last time there were guys in our office who didn't give a s**t because the strikes were based around their day off. If it's one day a week it should be the same day every week. But the most powerful form of strike is a week or more to really make a point. Anything else is fruitless.

A more prudent question would be 'would you take strike action in the event of a vote to strike?' Honest answers only on a postcard please.
