Never seen morale so low in my office. Every day arguing with linos, being told that you're lazy/ too slow or just downright incompetent.
What they forget is that the office runs on tons of overtime every week and without the goodwill of the posties there would be massive failures every day.
Well, the feeling amongst most of the folks I've spoken to is that the goodwill's gonna run out this year....

Is this really what it has come too? Trying to scaremonger folk into working unsociable hours. its not even like there is any incentive attached. Last year they back shift parcel duties at least got Mon-Fri. They think we are that daft we will jump at it too for the extra hours. The reality is the office would come to a stand still as we currently cant clear daily at the moment with most part timers getting full time. Parcels left lying from Sat, and mail being cut off dailly.
Dom told us they not getting any hire vans this year which is a massive blow, hes wanting folk to complete everyday not going to happen. i don't mind working through but i aint working over.
Like every other year the pressure o/t will start to late there will not be enough vans the usual suspects will go sic the lucky few with the easier duties will finish early and mop up the indoor o/t.

Your manager is wrong. The National Scoping Agreement for late deliveries at Christmas signed by Gary Burgess for Royal Mail and Mark BAULCH who is covering for Bob GIBSON states these duties will be Monday - Friday for four weeks. You will also attract a late shift allowance of around £23 per week.
The reason why Royal Mail want late deliveries is they do not want to hire vans and the CDVs can be used in the evenings on parcel deliveries. When I started some delivery times were considered unsocial hours. Let's remember we are opposing Royal Mail''s move to a 9-5 attendance time which is very social in terms of times but not very popular with current employees !

What are the hours if some of the screws are lying about there being a requirement to work late Saturday?
Is there no provision at all for late deliveries on a Saturday in this agreement?
If there is a link to the agreement that'd be most appreciated.

Would not be a problem apart from Saturdays that is the elephant in the room let's ditch Saturdays!
My mate still there rang me today (Sat) and told me office were forced to lapse due to sickness and it was the worst Saturday he'd seen in memory. Apparently the threats against cutting-off over the next month are starting too. One day a 14-tonner got lost (apparently the drivers are agency and almost all E-Europeans with sketchy English) so the second wave of packets was missed, and the next day (Wed) there were 52 extra Yorks to deliver when it all piled in backlogged. Nearly caused a walkout apparently.
The plan is to carry on as normal,as we've all got so much free time during the day that we can absorb the additional workload along with d2ds icy conditions failing pda's, and all with in our working day.
Well thats what I'm sure the management believe anyway

Must be different up our way - we will have part timers packet runs from 6:30am to 8:30am, then coming back to the office to do delivery walks. Chapping folks door at 6:45am for a parcel?
