In unskilled manual work the more useful person to a business would get paid more / keep their job.
If you had the slightest clue what you were talking about you would understand that the role of prepping duties has changed, the key to efficiency is not knowing every duty in the office a little but knowing the 2 or 3 duties you prepare very well. That's how you drive up efficiency, key roles done by key people, structure and management. Knowing a little about a lot is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike in unskilled manual work.

That's page 1 management glfp, were you off sick that day?

If you've been in the same office for 20 years you should know the whole lot. END OF
Sickness, holidays wouldn't be so much of an issue if staff could meet operational needs and actually move around.

You're just so very institutionalised at Royal Mail it beggars belief; anything that isn't within your mindset really ruffles feathers or gets up your gills,

Is that the best you can do, childish insults?

One of the biggest failures in operational management is the obsession that moving people around for no particular reason is an efficient use of resources and effective management. It isn't, it's useless, inefficient and ineffective. What it is actually about is a need for management to look busy. You are basically arsonist fire fighters setting fires and then expecting a pat on the back for putting your own fire out.

The bulk of the prep work done now is either sequenced or D2D. what possible plus for the business would knowing every duty bring?

You have to be prepared to keep learning in any job.

Learn the walks.

Problem with senoirity - to many senior staff know too little about the walsk in the office.

20 years + staff should know all the walks.
that's bollox. I was a ''vice postman'' for 10yrs (done every walk in the office except driving) before I got my own duty, of which I was on for 8 yrs. then the re-pick happened and park & loop. had this duty 7yrs. so for the last 15yrs I have only done 2 duties. how can you been expected to know ALL the duties from 15yrs ago. plus all the walks have changed immensely since then.
that's bollox, We have 30 walks and we have had them all change in the last 5 years plus with mass housebuilding on our turf.
I have only done 6 of them walks and the DOM doesn't want people who haven't done the rounds before to do other walks because they would be slow and cost more O/T. The same with the IPS, DOM only want the speedy sorters on the IPS and the rest on throwing the lapsed walks off. Vicious circle

You shouldn't have done only 2 walks in 15 years !
You should have done them all.
That way you would be useful on the IPS
Pisses me off when reserves can sort quicker than 20 + years people.
Its a joke - only in Royal Mail :arrrghhh

If RM ever were to bring in the one wave you could possibly have to go over to buddy boxes for mech letters as well

There would be no point in moving to one wave if they couldn't move to at least 90% sequenced mail. If they can't they won't. I think some areas are years away from this and some will never reach those targets or move to one wave.

If the pipeline gets moved then DOs can probably expect a CUT in the % of sequenced that they get, otherwise some DOs won't get their work until late in the afternoon
