Not all D2D items are equally easy to throw into frame slots, a rigid letter is a damn sight easier to prep than a micro-thin A4 item that changes shape if you look at it the wrong way.

1/6th is what you should throw in each day so with that in mind 1/6th of 6 lots of D2Drs in 25 mins should not be a problem.

most of my columns are double slots which is 160 calls. which is 960 D2Ds to prep together in 25 mins. nobody has done it in ours that I know of, and you are pushed for space on you're frame. it takes about 5 mins just to get them unpacked out of the boxes or to undo those strapex ties. it would take some doing in my view.

You don't nest them. You put 6 piles on the frame and then take 1 from each pile and insert in to frame - for double slots you just take 1 from each pile and then start again, so in essence 12 items slotting in in 1 "prep movement".

720 items/ 20 mins = 36 items per minute, which is achievable. In reality, that is quit a high prep rate so probably 25 minutes is more accurate, which is just below 30 items per minute. Obviously it depends on the size and rigidity of the items and how awkward they are.

Fair enough if they are all double slots, then that means the amount of calls and as a result the amount of items requiring prep is increased. Would imagine it would take slightly over 30 mins for that amount.

No, it isn't as difficult as that assuming you have prepped the frame correctly. Ensure you have the largest of the d2d's as the last of the pile. Then all mail for number 2 (for example goes to the front, then all mail for number 4 goes to the back of the d2d's. So you are basically only filtering to the largest d2d. All mail up to that point is for number 2. All mail behind that including the rest of the d2d'2 is for number 4, until you hit mail for number 6 and so on.

Of course, the problem arises when you aren't the person doing the prep and the mail is in a haphazard order and not very organised.

But that is just my opinion and everybody does things slightly different.

But nesting isn't really allowed, although managers often turn a blind eye as long as the work is done.

Steve's way of the doing the d2ds especially how to prep double-slots is spot on... However, I will still prefer to nest if at all possible - then I am just delivery a bundle of d2ds rather loose ones and the likelihood of mail slipping amongst 6 lots of d2ds is less...

It is surprising that some posties do not know how to prep double-slots...

You either take more time indoors, nesting them, against official policy.

Or you keep them separate, speeding up prep, but then outdoor filtering takes an age... Providing you do this stationary and actaully check each item of mail, rather than "blindly" pulling a bunch of items up to and including the biggest D2D item.

Some of the 6 D2D prep times being quoted make me wonder... Do your linos mind you wearing your Superman/Superwoman suit over the top of your RM uniform? Maybe it is high-vis class 2, so is double purpose.

I can only dream of doing 6 D2D items for ~240 houses on a normal Tuesday (not a bank holiday week where like today, we would be expected to prep at least part of Monday's boxes) in ~30minutes!

But what if there's a miss-sort inside the nest?

I just keep all the mail to one side of the D2D's - no time lost.
