Re: Keeping Healthy.
You should warm up before going out, do some stretches, might look a bit silly but you won't ache as much in the evening, also have a protein shake after you finish, it'll help your muscles recover... again sounds silly but you are essentially having a 4/5 hour workout and your muscles are trying to restore the glycogen they used up during the day(especially if your walk, like the one i'm on atm has 600 houses all up hilly drive ways
) a lot of people will crave sugar after work because of this.
a few light stretches once the shift is done couldn't hurt either,
also, If you are using a bag make sure you alternate which shoulder you use!

Re: Keeping Healthy.
There is a lot of truth in what you are saying but feel RM should be providing a service to employees with access to a physio or discounted rates as it should be expected workers will pick up aches and pains like sportsmen as we are doing a 4/5 hour shift as my office is a 4 day week so most days can be around 5 hours walking or more if busy.Justanotherstar wrote:You should warm up before going out, do some stretches, might look a bit silly but you won't ache as much in the evening, also have a protein shake after you finish, it'll help your muscles recover... again sounds silly but you are essentially having a 4/5 hour workout and your muscles are trying to restore the glycogen they used up during the day(especially if your walk, like the one i'm on atm has 600 houses all up hilly drive ways) a lot of people will crave sugar after work because of this.

I have a roller which I use on my calf muscles every couple of days and a tennis ball on my gluts and various other stretches as I would seize up without doing these and still manage to get a few runs in each week.
It's a fine line though but I do pay to go to a physio a few times a year and think RM should provide some service or at least look to subsidize it.

a few including me do it at my office, rather look like a "knob" than walk like a 90 year old when I reach 60Rory wrote:What a kn*b you would look stretching before you go out.Justanotherstar wrote:You should warm up before going out, do some stretches, might look a bit silly but you won't ache as much in the evening, also have a protein shake after you finish, it'll help your muscles recover... again sounds silly but you are essentially having a 4/5 hour workout and your muscles are trying to restore the glycogen they used up during the day(especially if your walk, like the one i'm on atm has 600 houses all up hilly drive ways) a lot of people will crave sugar after work because of this.

Re: Keeping Healthy.
A lot of posties are not fit. They have injuries from their job. Sadly RM is only ever interested in getting employees back to work ASAP instead of at the right time.
