Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
just a observation been left 2 years never did park and loop ,but surely if performed correctly in the long term will reduce wear and tear ,making the job less taxing ,correctly i mean a bundle of letters and couple of packets in small loops back to the vehicle ,not like someone i saw recently locally leaning back to counteract the weight of the bag when he had a vehicle to take the weight .heres hoping im right about the long term benefits of park and loop

But nowadays one loop may have especially with D2Ds, 3/4 bundles of mail and at least a dozen small packets. If you've only got 30-35mins to complete the loop which can be up to a mile long, splitting a bag up and doing a lot of dead walking back to the van doesn't make a lot of sense. Hence why posties tend to just take the whole bag and get on with it.

Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
Still can't believe (in these last few years of rm) people (doms dims rle dom supports ect) are all stuck inside all day sat on their arsis when we are pushed to the limit outside!
There are too many unnecessary systems and too much paperwork for them . Not to mention the coffee machine, pc and tv's to play with.

Newbie you miss my point most roads have houses on both sides so do part of the road both sides that is manageable always coming back to van then move the van and do again surely thats the purpose of park and loop i hope that is clear, plus if you have to do big loops a trolley would be handy but i return to my first point let van carry the weight .

Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
Totally agree with you P+L should work. And some of the heavier walks should have 10/12 loops instead of eight and it would also stop the issues of overweight bags. But what do posties know.tonymackem wrote:Newbie you miss my point most roads have houses on both sides so do part of the road both sides that is manageable always coming back to van then move the van and do again surely thats the purpose of park and loop i hope that is clear, plus if you have to do big loops a trolley would be handy but i return to my first point let van carry the weight .

Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
Tony, the van can carry the weight, but it can,t deliver the mail. Walking is a necessity with park and loop and to see many posties including my driving partner shouldering any weight of bag is absolutely ridiculous when a LWT is available to take the load. I am not a supporter of park and loop as it means that the non driver is virtually 100% on his/her feet for the entirety of the walk. This is not sustainable for anyone over the medium term, let alone the long term, and there needs to be a big rethink on delivery methods, but to not use the equipment that you have to reduce the stress is down right stupid.tonymackem wrote:Newbie you miss my point most roads have houses on both sides so do part of the road both sides that is manageable always coming back to van then move the van and do again surely thats the purpose of park and loop i hope that is clear, plus if you have to do big loops a trolley would be handy but i return to my first point let van carry the weight .

Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
I wish they were this small, our dom timed me on a loop, not the biggest and it took 1hr 15 mins and that was in the middle of summer,I have a loop that is bigger than this, the difference between the walkers loops and the drivers loops are way too big, over the walk the walker has 196 more delivery points than the driver.Newbie001 wrote:In an ideal world P + L works.tonymackem wrote:just a observation been left 2 years never did park and loop ,but surely if performed correctly in the long term will reduce wear and tear ,making the job less taxing ,correctly i mean a bundle of letters and couple of packets in small loops back to the vehicle ,not like someone i saw recently locally leaning back to counteract the weight of the bag when he had a vehicle to take the weight .heres hoping im right about the long term benefits of park and loop

I can't think of anything more taxing than getting in and out of the van and moving it along. All that twisting and knee work. Use the LWT.

Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
Fully agree with this. I found the job less physically demanding and less stressful in the 'old days' of drop bags. You could get into rhythm on delivery and go at whatever pace suited you... where as now all the faffing around driving, parking up, climbing in and out of the van, sorting your next bags and pkts out in the back of the van, walking around your loop for 20-30 minutes then starting the whole process again. And again. And again. And again. And again.....BarnsleyLackey wrote:I can't think of anything more taxing than getting in and out of the van and moving it along. All that twisting and knee work. Re: JOBS TO PHYSICAL NOW
the real problem with this is like in our unit the senior walks in the reviews are not even some are finishing 2 hours earlier than others so they will not do anything to upset that these are union members as well so you cant blame the union until the rounds are even and you sign in and out and the new pdas watch your every move and you get docked the time you are not working then thats the way forwardpostslippete wrote:Management don't care if you are young or old; they expect everyone to be able to do the job regardless.
How on earth they expect a 62 year old to keep pace with a 20 odd year old baffles me; and although managers do their level best to force extra on everyone, i think its great when some of them decide to stuff them and just work to their time using trolleys
I think what is really missing amongst postmen and women though is solidarity. Not everyone is in the union; you get some guys coming in like 2 hours early (why for god's sake??) and others that would even have me jogging just to catch up with 'em!! If everyone in the section stood up for themselves and said ok so they are collapsing this duty, why don't we all just work to our time and don't take it??? And then when you get another easy day, the manager might think twice about lapsing a duty because either he has to pay someone on overtime to do it or he does it himself!!![]()
