The senior management need to open their eyes and see what really goes on in your average DO. Either get rid of managers who go home at 11 on a daily basis because they've not got anything to do, or give them more work to fill their hours! Getting rid of the staff on the front line won't help. Delivery offices up and down the country are already failing to clear the office because there simply isn't enough staff to deliver it all!

I obviously can't comment on other offices but ours has less than 20 HCTs and I can see the advantages of it because there would not be a necessity for bulk duties and we would save possibly 6 because the large excess packets they take would be incorporated into the P&L duties - the story is not quite so simple because other duties would need to be created in order to absorb the bulk duties - but I can see a loss of staff.
Nearly all our HCT duties are lapsed now anyway!

Thousands of Postmen and women HAVE lost their jobs.
Your headline should correctly read, 'Thousands MORE Postmen and women to lose their jobs.
What's the betting this scum government will point their crooked fingers and say, 'your fault you're unemployed.' Eh?

Too true regarding HCT's our office had 14 of them 12 months ago now were down to 1  Also the 6 proposed lapsed duties in are office are all ex HCT duties.I do agree with dvbuk I was witnessing on a daily basis some HCT duties leaving parcels in for O/T drivers to mop up simply cos they couldn't fit them in and the volume of parcels were getting.
who's more the fool, the fool , or the fool that follows the fool ?

I too have heard this but t is also due to the security of the mail - there have been lots of thefts.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Another well thought out idea, then.

I'm sure they would find some reason to have their wicked way clash depending on the area - personally, apart from the first edition of HCTs which were all canvas to which I fitted aluminium inners we only had one slashed and we haven't had thefts from the newer models. I don't know when it will happen but I'm pretty sure it will.

People losing their jobs will have nothing to do with early starters, runners or meal relief skippers.
If people lose their jobs it is simply because there is insufficient work.

All Royal Mail ills are not solely at TNTs door. The fact of the matter is that some areas moved forward in line with the workload on revisions and some didn't and some have got away with it but make no mistake sooner or later it will come home to roost and the office hours will have to be brought into line with the workload. Our office is roughly 55/45 FT/PT and has been for a number of years and no full time posts have been advertised for some considerable time. Our area is not scheduled for a TNT incursion for the foreseeable future but it is becoming obvious that lapsing is on the increase - now 7 duties per week and OT severely cut.
