Re: WHY ARE PEOPLE WORKING FOR NOTHING ?
The simple answer is because they are f***ing morons.
They don't want to see or care that by coming in early they are just making it easy for management to cut jobs, they are not arsed so long as they can get finished early it is their GOD, it makes them think that they are `getting one over the man," they are selfish c.unts who can't or won't accept that they are s**t at their jobs or too spineless to stand up for themselves and say NO when a manager says they must do crap like flexing and then have the nerve to call other people awkward or lazy, they are the very reason why Royal Fail is now looking to save more on indoor working and cutting jobs, in short they are no more better than management tools to undermine other workers.
Oh and most of the `early` brigade in our office don't even have fookin kids to pick up from school, they just `like` to finish early because of the old job and knock bollocks, well when your job has gone and your knocking on the jobcentre door for a hand out will you still feel like you've gotten `one over the man?`.

Same in our office, when i arrive and look around most of them have started putting in their mail and two or three have finished, DOM does nothing, he should make them do extra while they are waiting for next van

Re: WHY ARE PEOPLE WORKING FOR NOTHING ?
Apart from killing the job and making for more lapsing; what I find most annoying is those that come in early and then try to hurry others who come in more closely to start time. Some even have very easy walks and then come in early and then tuts and mither others.
We also have people go to IPS early so that we can all go out early - why bother? By going in early they make managers start patrolling looking for people that are ready and then they start mithering as well...
It is crazy!
Come in early if you want but be mindful of the effects and don't bother others or boast about what time you get to finish.

Spot on.spiderj wrote:Many reasons
1.they are afraid for their job
2.they can't cope with the workload so compensate by coming in early
3.they are being bullied into it by managers/colleagues
4.they haven't read a certain book about folk with ragged trousers and don't understand where their work ethic leads
5.lastly they might just be as mad as toast.
By not taking Meal and Relaxation breaks employees are risking their own welfare as well as putting the Health & Safety of others at risk.
It should now be mandatory for all DOs to record attended as well as paid for hours and for this information to form part of the revision process.
Just found this .... an excellent post by CWU Bradford & District.
http://cwubradfordanddistrict.org/delivery_members.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
DO THE JOB PROPERLY – IT’S YOUR JOB – IT’S YOUR FUTURE
We believe that your employer, Royal Mail does not recognise the tremendous effort put in on a daily basis by their employees who deliver the mail, and their prime objective is to reduce hours on a regular basis in delivery offices up and down the country. As someone who works in a delivery office you will know how difficult your job is and how much more difficult it will become if Royal Mail continue to reduce hours (notwithstanding automation), especially hours out on delivery.
It is time that they were shown just how much the delivery network takes advantage of the goodwill
and self sacrifice of those who deliver the mail. There are currently offices around the country that have
come to this conclusion themselves and they have decided enough is enough and that Royal Mail gets
only what it pays for. They have started to do the job properly – nobody starts before their due time
and everyone is taking their full meal relief entitlement, which also helps to protect the jobs of our
Quadrant members, they have also ceased the use of private cars on delivery.
Royal Mail has now seen the true value of their delivery employees in those offices.
Royal Mail’s reaction to this is to accuse members of taking unofficial industrial action if they start on
time, take their proper meal breaks or decline to use their own cars! Our reaction has been to say to
Royal Mail: “If you really believe that, then take us to court”. Not surprisingly, Royal Mail has not done so.
For the record it is not unlawful to start your job on time. It is not unlawful to take your full meal relief.
It is not unlawful to stop using your own car for deliveries.
Far from these things being unlawful, the law only requires you to work your contracted hours;
the law requires you to have proper meal breaks.
ALL DELIVERY MEMBERS
Members are also weighing their bags before going out on delivery in those offices. The CWU and
Royal Mail reached a binding collective agreement at the time of SDD in the light of health and safety
law that the weight of the first bag should be no more than 16kg, and all pouches after the second
should get progressively lighter, in accordance with the matrix shown below.
I have to say that Royal Mail’s accusations expose what they really think about you. They want to continue to exploit your goodwill by making threats. You can come to your own conclusion on that point.
To summarise: you are legally entitled to:
Stop coming in early
Start taking your full meal reliefs especially before going out on delivery
Stop using your private cars
Start weighing your pouches in line with the matrix.
You will be working safely and legally and at the same time demonstrating to Royal Mail just how
much they took advantage of your generosity to save their costs!
Think about it – no more stress. It’s your job – it’s your future.

I thought by Human's previous post that he worked in the callers office
......which makes his coming in early even worse.

Try just coming in on time... still don't rush, you're not under pressure (many put themselves under pressure with time. don't) and I can assure you, you'll enjoy your duty even more! Trust me... it's the future!human1 wrote:No no no you are wrong ... come 40 minutes early make my life easy and comphertable becaue I dont not like rushing around and being under pressure, so I always come early , take my time , make every thing up to date and then enjoy my duty.Chelseablue wrote:Human1 you make me sick

Re: WHY ARE PEOPLE WORKING FOR NOTHING ?
So what is causing the undue pressure and the need to rush around?
And should it be acceptable that someone who is not up to scratch is making up for that by spending more time on the job?
I actually think that most posties are good enough within the acceptable range - that is, if there is a measurable 'standard'...
Wanting to enjoy the job is almost a good 'excuse' but consistently working for nothing is not good enough. If you take your 20 minutes break with other folks in the office - you have more chance of enjoying the job, having a chin wag and taking your time...
Lastly, most of those that come in early are not there to enjoy the job or take it easy - they are rushers and they are posties that find it hard to accept that start times have changed and 'job and knock' can be dispensed with by the managers that still allow it.
