Re: staff not using tools provided/ LWT
Thats roughly how we tried to explain it to our members regarding LWT, as they can take bigger pkts, they would not have to drive over the ground again with pkts. But, we've failed to get most of the guys to use LWT, but anyone who does and finishes later, we backup 100%. Management won't go out themsleves and check, because as most say they think getting all mail delivered is they way to go. Of course when lapsing is mentioned then everyone threatens to use the LWT (apart from Sat's of course), and of course we're talking about next years cut in hours/OPG and when management say we can take out hours because OPG are finishing early, what are we supposed t do as Reps, it's a lose/lose situation, and very frustrating!fishtank wrote:Let's break that down halfull.halfull wrote: i agree with the part about the shortcuts which is a huge factor but its total rubbish to say the lwt doesnt take much longer! its time to get out of van, time to keep loading bags on/off its time fetching it at the end of everydrive!
I arrive at my first loop, take the trolley out of the van, assemble it and hook the bags on then i'm ready to go.
How long does that take me?...around a minute, maybe two on a bad day.
I have 6 loops...that's....worse case scenario....12 minutes.
Now being kind we'll say someone with a pouch only takes 30 seconds but he's not going to be able to take as much as me so he will need more loops and more stops and i can take bigger/heavier packets than him so that will also take time.
As for fetching it at the end of the drive,if you are doing the job properly that's where you are going anyway so it isn't going to cost any time.
Using trolleys is slower but not vastly slower and definitely not anywhere near as much as those who don't use a trolley will try to make out to avoid using them.
Most of the time difference is simply down to the fact that you can't take short cuts with the thing.
FT.
Trolley user since 2010.
Not a manager.

Re: staff not using tools provided/ LWT
I'm at the head of the list when it comes to criticising BT2010 and the union but here is a point where they did a good job in getting the weight off the shoulder for the benefit of the membership and not, for once, Royal Mail and here you get the membership failing to abide by the revision agreements, more a question of donkeys lead by donkeys in this case. Who cares how long it takes, you are supposed to work your hours now so that's all you need to do. The question should be "how much shall I leave in boss" if the delivery goes over your scheduled hours.

I cant think of anyone that uses a trolly in our office ,now dont get me wrong im one who never comes in early starts at my time but ive never been asked to use a trolly
Its the same old thing as it has been for the 12 years ive been there
Certain people start 45 mins to an hr early ,when they are out on the walk theres no bags just a bundle or 2 and they run round to get done 2 hrs early nearly every day ,plain stupid yet will be the 1st to moan when we start collapsing !!
I used to worry about it, making time costing people jobs, but theres just no point these people will NEVER EVER CHANGE theres always a reason why as long as it suits them
Sad as it seems we are all reduced to looking after no 1 now cause the jobs will start to go

But if we don't start looking after each other and looking at the effects of our own actions, then eventually the jobs that go will be the one your doing.mojothefishmo wrote:Sad as it seems we are all reduced to looking after no 1 now cause the jobs will start to go
To paraphrase Martin Niemöller
First they came for the Mail Centres,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't in a Mail Centre.
Then they came for the Full Timers,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Full Timer.
Then they came for the Reps,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Rep .
Then they came for the ones doing the job by the book,
and I didn't speak out because I was a runner .
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Happy to use a LWT as long as RM make my round a little smaller. No back problems,no chasing over-time & no hassle.
Just simple common sense and good old fashioned planning from us posties and not from Pegusas!!!! now that's what i call modernisation !!!!!!

Well if you use a trolley and keep leaving in then your round is smaller and a point will have been proved.................namely the round was too big.gac2254072243 wrote:Happy to use a LWT as long as RM make my round a little smaller. No back problems,no chasing over-time & no hassle.

Re: staff not using tools provided/ LWT
have we all forgot that the idea of using the lwt was designed with duty lenghth in mind (as well as weight off shoulder), hells flames!!,,, its SUPPOSED to take longer. eastie is correct, ive done my own round with and without the lwt. it adds roughly 10mins per loop, if you,ve got 6 loops theres an hour added to you,re duty. which means you can have the duty cut by an hour. keith postie, if the members are arguing they,ll be out till 7 o clock, by using trollies, you tell them ''no they wont'' because they cut off, simple as. when our revision was brought in, EVERY duty where a trolly was used had to be cut by up to and over an hour. only the idiots who came in early and just used the pouch stayed the same. we only do the hour that was taken off on a monday and tuesday as ''lapsing'' and thats only if its doable. screw your loaf people.

Love the idea of useing the trolly and the hr off our 4.5 hr duty as im knackered most days ,but id be the only one in the entire office and its only relevent if your partner will use one too,and then theres the management harrassment for being awkward and trying to do the job right !,if i and my partner used trollys wed struggle to complete everyday but as i said wed be singled out

Re: staff not using tools provided/ LWT
simple answer to that mate, is, get h&s involved if management complain. its mandatory to use it if the duty is designed for a trolley. there would be no comeback, and in fact they would be showing complete disregard for health and safety rules if they insisted on you NOT using it. which is a sackable offence,

I may ask if i can trial one just to see how it works that would be the best place to start :)daveyeff wrote:simple answer to that mate, is, get h&s involved if management complain. its mandatory to use it if the duty is designed for a trolley. there would be no comeback, and in fact they would be showing complete disregard for health and safety rules if they insisted on you NOT using it. which is a sackable offence,
