I always took that more as a way that RM could enforce there importance of d2D i.e. you'd never dump a load of 1st class letter rather than them seriously believing that they were ACTUAL live mail. Also I guess it makes it just that bit easier to get rid of a postie not doing them.gerardy wrote:why they are not added into the offices traffic figures weekly when they are classified as live mail.

Nice idea but can't see that happening. CSS machines need codes to read so they can operate. Coding the D2D items plus the software required for the machines plus the variance of D2D mail shots within an office would add plenty of extra cost. Would be a nightmare to organise. And some of the flimsy stuff would get shredded as it passed through.

Re: A D2D whisper
We always said it was a non-starter.
Too much variance...in size, shape, different sectors in an office getting different amounts/types,the cost but most importantly the D2D customer..the guy who pays for it to be sent...doesn't want it.
To be honest in my opinion it was thrown into the agreement to calm fears that we would be slaughtered with 6,7 and 8 D2D and no time to do them.
It worked...look how many still come on here asking when it's going to happen.
I don't really think there was any genuine belief by RM or CWU HQ that they would be automated.
I might be wrong...they may be more gullible than i think.

Re: A D2D whisper
I don't think anyone in our office has had more than 5 lots in one week. Only those with no experience of D2D thought that a plastic sleeve could be used. Just in this office we cover two post codes and over a wide area with a variety across the office of advertising. The recession has probably curtailed the increase to some extent and who can say when things will recover enough to engender confidence in leaflet advertising.

Re: A D2D whisper
We keep being told D2D is built into the workload but I've not noticed people being given any extra prep time because of the D2D's and the way the amount of time you're allowed for prepping D2D's is a joke. You have to prep 16% a day (or whatever it is) but some rounds have more delivery points than others so 16% of 800 houses will take longer than 16% of 400 houses. I think a better way would be you're allowed a time per item for example 2 second per item so if you prep 30 D2D's thats 1 minute.

Re: A D2D whisper
yes had 6 lots on a few occassions and no they did not come in plastic sleeves ,all d2d shouldRTP wrote:No, but I do have another couple of questions on D2D.
1.How many D2D is supposed to trigger them coming together as one in plastic sleeves? From memory I thought it was 6 lots.
2. Has anyone had 6 lots and if so, did they come in plastic sleeves.

Re: A D2D whisper
I don't know about sleeves, but it would be nice if d2ds came in some kind of user-friendly form.
A maximum size should be enforced - I would suggest it would be a start if they all fitted into an RM frame. We had a d2d a few weeks back that wouldn't fit into the frame ... so are we allowed to fold them? Is there a guide-line on that? Irrelevant, really, they should never reach the size where they shouldn't fit into the f*cking fitting, and if anyone with common sense was running the shop, they'd advise the customer of this in the first place.
Then, it would be nice if you didn't have to fight through a pile of cord, then sellotape, then a box, just to get at your d2ds. It takes me five minutes sometimes just to get a go at them. Is it too much to make it easier for the guy who's actually doing the work?

Don't you just love the bulky Red Cross D2D envelopes with the pen or similar enclosed, or those chequebook-like ones such as Subway and Direct Line that continually try and escape from the bundle you are delivering from?

Re: A D2D whisper
I doubt they can because the d2d payment isn't for d2d offically, it's a suppliment now so techincally we are not paid for d2ds anymore.

6 for the last two weeks, and next weeks are stupid, we have a county council mag, and a local free ad paper, + 4 others, takes ages to prep, and then we get moans because we can't get packets in our pouches. But at least all the d2d's get delivered, you have to get the priorities right.

Re: A D2D whisper
Never in a month of sundays would the public aka the media accept a plastic bag filled with shyte delivered by royal mail. It would be a pr disaster, so its either by good management decision or chance that it's not happened. Note though, if by management decision it hasn't been communicated to the workers. Certainly six items can be mechanically prepped and supplied as single units. However not sure how that would be sold to the marketing managers who place d2ds with RM - unifying Red cross, landrover, kebab on a stick and virgin into a bundle isn't likely to be seen as a prime marketing opportunity by marketeers. My guess would be that each d2d is placed with RM as a single marketing hit and not sold as one of six hitting the mat that day.
For what it's worth, I'm in favour of not adding plastic to the d2d, somekind of paper band would be my theoretical ideal, after no d2ds of course.
