I have met him only three times and have found, he says what he thinks you want to hear on the day and is very good at spin and half truths! The CWU get him out to rabble rouse and make noise but sadly that is all he does! HQ would have you think of him as the next Bob Crow as piss poor as he is but sadly "I" think Ward is a very poor copy of even him. HQ has failed every member of the CWU for years and get very well paid to do it, Ward is the worst of the bunch.Tamsky wrote:Dave Ward said that BSI standards were outdated and that most industries no longer used this measurement. There is no agreement on BSI or throughputs, that was made clear.
I have to say that I've always found Ward to be pretty straightforward about things.

Benefits to be put back to 2015? Why wasnt Ward clear on that? Tamsky do you mean that revisions to be implementedTamsky wrote:
Worrying that the benefits to OPG staff may be put back to 2015 (I asked Ward about this but didn't get a clear answer)

I think he was referring to the fact that some units might not have a revision until 2015.Danelectro wrote:

Any unit that has a revision should trigger the payments.
He said something about adding to the talks a cut off date when all units should have received the lump sums even if they haven't had a revision.
BTA was a 3 year deal and the agreement was all the revisions and consequently the lump sums should have been completed by then.
Kelly was also clear that revisions would be put in even if there were no savings to be made.

Re: West of scotland delivery function BT 2010
Hi Danelctro - RM have adopted a new business plan till 2015. BT2010 expires in 2012. RM case is that financial position is worse than thought in RM - Crozier/Leighton regime not open about the real financial state of RM. In addition RM senior managers over estimated the savings through transformation - eg RM Scotland identified £15m worth of savings, adjusted now to £7.5m. Cash value cost to RM of benefits in BT2010 is approx £5,000 per full time staff member, over the term of the agreement. Pension defecit payments having severe impact on cash flow. Falling 'mail market' forecast.
I am guilty of putting two and two together perhaps but I can see RM wanting to extend the terms of benefits in BT 2010 to 2015. This applies not only to West of Scotland.
The CWU would have to be mad to agree..............hopefully

Would it be cynical to suggest that Ward was only in Glasgow because Chelsea were playing Rangers this weekend?

No more vans being bought to bring DM revisions in, as they are too costly or not making enough savings.
Would be nice to hear something official from HQ & what their response is.

Scrapping P&L will be bad for us.clashcityrocker wrote:No delivery methods means no longer delivery spans.gb93 wrote: Reports I heard after meeting in NE area, is wait for it..... P&L scrapped nationwide.

Continuing with P&L in it's present form will bankrupt the company.
Whatever the future holds...it won't be pretty.

Re: West of scotland delivery function BT 2010
Delivery can not be approached as if it was an exact science.
If it was, younger or fitter people would have to do more outdoor work.
Perhaps RM are going to have to accept that delivery is effectively piecework. "Here is this chunk of delivery - we will pay you 4hrs pay to complete it. If you complete it in 3hrs that is your good luck." Effectively they already do this with posties they know are going over their time but not claiming overtime.
The indoor element can be subjected to a more scientific approach.
The Individual Performance Standards (and NCI) will become more and more important as they try to screw hours out of the indoor operation.

What affect would a nationwide P&L axing have on walk sequencing? Would offices that use park and loop need another revision as presumably the sequencing would be based on P&L loops?gb93 wrote:Reports I heard after meeting in NE area, is wait for it..... P&L scrapped nationwide.Tamsky wrote:

Without P&L the walks would have to be redone to conform to 3.30 max delivery span anyway.SpacePhoenix wrote: What affect would a nationwide P&L axing have on walk sequencing? Would offices that use park and loop need another revision as presumably the sequencing would be based on P&L loops?
The plan on the CSS machines would then need to change.
I don't think that's really a big deal..the major problem would be filling the indoor time if the outdoor is limited to 3.30.
As Clash said...shedloads of part-timers.

Not quite, it will just lead the way to super DOs and back to the Dutch model againfishtank wrote:Without P&L the walks would have to be redone to conform to 3.30 max delivery span anyway.SpacePhoenix wrote:gb93 wrote: What affect would a nationwide P&L axing have on walk sequencing? If they still use the vans then they may bolt a collection onto the end of some duties (those who would be the driver in a P&L duty). That may have a knock-on affect on SAs. What about packets to big for walkers to take, would the packet duties need to be put back in?fishtank wrote:Without P&L the walks would have to be redone to conform to 3.30 max delivery span anyway.SpacePhoenix wrote: What affect would a nationwide P&L axing have on walk sequencing? Just messing but how it could be done is one full-time/one part-time.SpacePhoenix wrote: If they still use the vans then they may bolt a collection onto the end of some duties (those who would be the driver in a P&L duty). Full-timer preps both duties...part-timer arrives.
Full-timer drops part-timer and bags off...part-timer does 3.30 delivery and goes home.
Full-timer does 3hr delivery plus the packets and specials and returns to the office.
All of the benefits(for RM) of P&L without the inefficiencies.
50% part-timers and weight on the shoulder for us.
