the greater burden, from peoples displaced off their land to the continuing wage repression in the so called western
democracies and all to make way for new investment opportunities for those who benefit from the game.
Which is exactly what is happening in Royal Mail, a perfectly viable state postal service in the process of being completely dismantled to make available new investment opportunities for finance capitol and to hell with anybody who gets in the way.

Re: Consultation
I just wondered why it has taken so long for any consultation process with the members to begin and I think I know the answer.
Could it be that the CWU are afraid of any consultation with the membership because they may suddenly realise that they have nothing in common: pensions, workload, aims, ambitions, redundancies, closures, pay cuts, financial constraints; amalgamations - well not total exclusion. It seems to be like the story of the kept woman, reliant on her husband for financial support yet having a total disassociation from any kind of support for the breadwinner.

Re: Consultation
You got some good points there dv and if your right its a sad state of affairs, but surely that cant be sustained because in essence what you have said means(and ive heard my AR rep say it) is the only thing to expect from the CWU is representationdvbuk55 wrote:I just wondered why it has taken so long for any consultation process with the members to begin and I think I know the answer.

Re: Consultation
When is the consultation starting, I'm on leave for 2 weeks after Friday and I wouldn't want to miss it. Mind someone suggested to me that it may only be a consultation as far as branch level...............so maybe it's already happened and we haven't heard yet, it is being run by the communications department after all.

Hey so did I, it was number withheld though, I thought it might be Hollywood....................you never know, in fact it's probably more likely to be Hollywood than a communication from the communications departmentfishtank wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:When is the consultation starting, I'm on leave for 2 weeks after Friday and I wouldn't want to miss it. dingo wrote:There is a number of issues which the national union has to achieve , safeguard jobs , safeguard pensions , resolve colleague share and find out more about the 5 year plan.
In additon it needs to review the current agreement. This is where the consultation comes in. We did not need a consultation exercise on the London Mail centre issues as we had balloted them for stike action.
Now i am sure all this will happen. However there are only so many hours in the day and the union only has 6 national postal officers who are dealing with a range of issues currently.
I would suggest HQ need to utlise all IR reps get divisional area and local all involved. Each local rep can do a consultation with his or her members draw up a summary and send it on to area rep who would summarise the summmaries from the local reps and send to divisonal rep divisional rep then does the same to HQ. This would be complemented by branch meetings of reps with the divisonal reps present.
There are 100's of reps across the country the is no need to wait for the National postal reps to find time.

So a summary becomes a summary of a summary and then a summary of a summary of a summary.Big Daz wrote: I would suggest HQ need to utlise all IR reps get divisional area and local all involved. Why not just forget it....
The reason for the need for consultation is that those exact communication channels are not working.
For whatever reason some Areas and Divisions are hiding from the problems faced by members and in some cases are the cause of these problems themselves.
The consultation is needed both to resolve the issues with the BTA and get to the bottom of why members feel so apathetic, disengaged and basically left to fight RM on their own.
Summaries will not cut it.

I think you'll go far in union circles BD because that is exactly what I would expect to see from full time union officials.Big Daz wrote:I would suggest HQ need to utlise all IR reps get divisional area and local all involved. A summary of a summary usually means "lets cut out the bits we don't like because it criticises us, then lets cut out the bits Area, Div and HQ won't like because it criticises them" which boils down to the final summary which would say, "hey everything is great, your doing a wonderful job, lets carry on with more of the same".
I don't think they want to hear from the membership except when it suits them. Whats wrong with a ballot type consultation which would then be graded not by HQ but by an independant panel who would then produce an impartial summary. But really is conference not a consultation where the opinion of branches is heard and ignored when it suits.
