I used to have this little s**t of a dog on my round always going for me. Anyway one day I had a thick magazine for this drop. Knocked on the door but no answer but dog was in making a racket. Their letter box was to the left of their front door. I tried to push this large mag through it but there was something stopping it. I presumed it was a dog guard. So I pushed a little harder. All of a sudden there was a big crash from inside and the dog was yelping in pain. Turns out there was a corner unit full of expensive crockery next to their letter box. It fell over and landed on their dog!!!!!
I pegged it but as it turned out there was someone inside asleep and came running out and caught me!!!
They claimed over a thousand pounds of royal mail for broken crockery and vet bills (dogs back leg broken and very traumatised).

Ha ha ha ha worth every penny if you ask me!!! :funneh :funneh

I had one similar-ish,only i could see this table with a plant pot type thing on it just in front of the letter box, which was at the side of porch type door.
I used to take a run and jump when i pushed the letters through, especially when i had some flats to see if i could knock the pot over.
Never did it,:d'oh! then they bloody moved :evil/mad

Many moons ago when i was on delivery, a great hairy brute of a biker worked in the DO. He came back off of a walk one day and was shaking like a leaf, said he had tried to deliver to a farm (the mail should have gone to a driver, but biker boy thought he had to deliver it) and a flock of geese chased him half way back to the DO.

I was on a walk and one of the managers who was a bully and thought he was God used to do walk checks or inspections by driving around walks in a Royal Mail pool car. It was about 8:30am and i was delivering near a pub, i heard the "clack-clack-clack" of his diesel car coming up the road. I hide behind a wall and he pulled up across the street looking through his paper work.
All of a sudden, a voice behind me said, "What are you doing?"
I looked behind me to see a woman stood there. I explained to the woman that i was being followed by this red car. She said, "Why would he be following you?" I explained that i had giros, cheque books, all sorts in my bag. she said, "come with me!" and we went into the rear yard of the pub, through the cellar area and out into the bar. The woman called the landlady and said, "some bloke is after our postie!" I told the landlady to look out of the window and see if he was still there. She did and confirmed he was sat across the road in his car. I explained about the cheque books, giros and bank cards in my bag and the landlady said to the other woman (who i found out was the pub cleaner) to make me a coffee. The landlady then phoned the police and i sat drinking coffee as they pulled up behind Mr. Bullyboy and proceeded to question him. He was frantically pulling stuff out of his pockets and showing the police, they then instructed him to drive away which he did.
The police then came into the pub and said, "it’s alright son. He worked for your lot at the post office, but we told him to go and find something better to do than harass the postman".
When i got back to the DO, he approached me and his face was like thunder. "Where were you this morning?" he demanded. I replied that i saw him talking to the police and that .....the other guys stood around started interrupting why he was with the police? He sort of coughed and blabbed something or other and went back to his office, rarely showing his face on the floor again, as all the guys would ask, "Whats this about the police stopping you?". :Very Happy

I was on a walk years ago and as a favour for a mate, swapped my walk over Christmas for a stint inside our old mail centre. When i got back on my walk after the New Year, a house i was delivering to had the front door open and waiting for me. An elderly lady said she hadn’t seen me over Christmas and had a Christmas gift for me. I thanked her and she said that she would go and get it for me, she turned and grabbed hold of a walking/zimmer type frame with a cardboard box hanging from the front. Well she heads off into her house chatting all the time about how her Christmas was and did i enjoy mine etc, etc.... taking ages! So while her back was turned, i nipped and posted the mail next door, kinda leant and stretched over the fence. The ol dear was still chatting and had now reached the kitchen, i had been stood there probably 10 minutes or so. I quickly ran two doors down and delivered there mail and got back as the ol dear was now starting her journey back towards the front door, still chatting away to me. So i went to step into her hallway asking if i could help her? She insisted that she was fine and took ages again to reach me. She then said with great happiness and glee in her face, here is your Christmas gift .......Now bear in mind that i have probably been stood at her door for around twenty minutes (less two deliverys) and she reached into the box that was dangling from her zimmer frame and produced and gave me ......a Satsuma orange! A f**king Satsuma! Call me an ungrateful shite, but a Satsuma!!! I dont even eat the feckin things! No packet of fags! No beer money! A Satsuma! I had to gratefully accept it and i threw it down the road the first chance i got.

Many years ago one of the blokes had used to always be on about a woman he used to see every morning on his delivery, acording to him she was an absolutely stunning woman, nice clothes, hair and makeup, a really classy woman and he was convinced she had the hots for him, anyway this went on for weeks until one saturday morning he had a recorded for this house, as he walked down the drive the front door was open and there was newspaper on the floor in the hallway which had dog s**t all over it and imprints in the dog s**t where people had trodden in it with bare feet, feeling a bit sick at what he saw and the terrible smell, he knocked on the door, a woman came down stairs with hair like Don King in a filthy nighty which had food, specks of blood and crows down the front of it, he said she looked f***ing awful, as she was signing for the recorded it suddenly dawned on him it was the woman at the bus stop, the woman of his dreams, she handed him the pen back and asked him if he wanted a coffee, no thanks he said im a bit busy and rushed away from the house. He said it made him feel sick every time he saw her after that at the bus stop, so we kept reminding him of it, as you do. Just goes to show that beauty is only skin deep. :funneh

Recently on delivery i smelt smoke, across the road i could see smoke billowing out of a downstairs kitchen window, taking my life in my hands
i rushed with bike across the busy road while at the same time phoning for fire engine, when i got to the front door i was choking on the black
smoke,i hammered on the door,it opened and even more smoke came pouring out and like a scene out of ET a little old man ( must have been 80+)
stood there in sting vest and Y fronts, i tried to pull him out of his house but he was having none of it he kept saying "Its ok son,i just burnt my spuds"
(this is about 8.30 am) with that he slammed the door in my face,i couldn't handle the smoke after that and ran back down the path,in the distance i
could hear the fire engines with sirens coming towards me very quickly,so i got back on my bike and carried on with my delivery, spend the rest of the day
coughing with all the smoke i had inhaled and my lips tasted of the acrid smoke for days, the guy is still getting letters delivered but not seen him since

On different delivery from one on now i thought i was on candid camera or beadles about, minding my own business doing my walk
a couple of oriental women with really crap English came up to me with a mobile, after lots of hand gestures i worked out that there was
a house nearby TO LET and they wanted to rent it and they wanted me to phone the letting agency and ask them loads of questions,
so there i am loads of walk left to do and am on mobile phone to some woman in office asking questions about how many bedrooms, bathrooms
etc and trying to understand what these two women where asking...i was seriously looking for hidden cameras and the only reason i didnt tell
them to naff off was coz i thought any minute the dozy git with a dodgy beard and microphone was going to appear followed my some dude with a camera

Funny stories from work

Post by pjthebear »

Anyone got any funny or strange happenings from work?
I'll kick off with this one:

one fine frostie morning i had a recorded delivery,i walked up the footpath and gave a healthy postman knock.I little kid opened the door and i ask him to get his mam/dad to sign for the letter(all pretty normal),then i heard a sream from upstairs"close the f******* door, the ponies will get out".Then from the top of the hall a little shetland pony appeared and started trotting towards me.fortunately it was a friendly little fella, but boy did it stink.
