And it's down to the managers to enforce the rules and if necessary the conduct code on those who don't.
So should reps at local level be encouraging their managers to use the conduct code with CWU members who are not following the rules?
How then do reps at local level represent their own members who continue to flout the rules?
No...reps should in my opinion concentrate their efforts on protecting members willing to follow union guidelines.
Advice should be given to all members on the correct procedure and the consequences of not following that procedure...but if members continue to ignore these warnings i'm afraid they would face those consequences without any help from me....that's just a personal stance.
I would never actively encourage managers to use the conduct code....that's not my job.

Agreed.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Too many flats and basements mean you cant use one.

What would you suggest as a solution?
lots of little loops with where you use a bag less than half the time and when you use one it has less than 5 kilo in it - how are you supposed to walk nearly 4 mile an hour with a trolley even without snow?

Lots of little loops would take longer, much longer than a bag on the shoulder.

P&L just isnt very efficient Im afraid.

Wait till Royal mail reveal their annual losses in 2 years time.

Efficient or fast.
If it's planned properly it's an efficient way to deliver the kind of products we are now delivering but it will never be as fast as 1 guy and half a dozen boxes.....but 1 guy with half a dozen boxes can't deliver what Royal Mail want.

So....they need to wake up to the fact that deliveries will take longer....or face more revision failures.
It's their problem and burying their head in the sand won't cut it any more.

P&L?

We're not talking about bags on back, we're talking about alternatives to trolleys!

good to see the opinions of postal workers being ignored by the few.
just follow the rule and bring stuff back, you cannot be bullied as you are following procedure, implemented by office people.
Let them have a go.

But using a bag isn't safe, whats the point of having duties extended, but still carrying bags like it was stila 3.5 hour span?

just work to your time if it isn't fast enough. What comes first your long term health (remember the tories want to extend retirement to 70 in next decade) or RM.

I had this conversation with a member this morning.
Me..Why are you still using a bag and the boxes?
Him..Because i can't finish the duty if i use a trolley.
Me...but you can't even finish the duty with a bag and the boxes and your killing yourself.
Him..Yeah...but i can nearly finish it.

I walked away...i had just wasted 5 minutes of my life. :cuppa

Fish, they are the same at our place. They are under an illusion that they have to finish and then moan like hell when they finish late and can hardly stand up the following day. Let em get on with it. They will get the message when there is a death in the office.

If there is a death, some people would only be interested in knowing if they have the seniority to take the duty, as it is technically now vacant.

I can imagine a conversation like this about 150 years ago .

MAN ... Boy why do you still crawl up them chimneys , there's laws now in place to prevent you from having to do this .
BOY ... Because if I use the new tools provided my master thinks it takes to long .
Man... if you use the correct tools it does take longer but the benefits to your health out way the extra time it takes .
Boy... I can't be bothered with all that new way of working crap , i'll just carry on the way I've always done it .

Park and loop does have problems that need ironing out but for me the trolleys and the removel of the use of private cars are a massive plus . The trolleys must be one of the biggest steps forward regarding health and safety for us posties and I can't get my head around why a large majority won't use them , absolutely crazy . It was probably the same when ear plugs , dust masks , goggles , rubber gloves etc were introduced by other employers for health and safety reasons .
