I can't understand then - when they cover a walk, why do they only take out about 20 first class letters, but it still takes 4 of them half an hour to do the duty?

Are you saying that in some offices the DOM goes - the mail is down, so the call rate is down, so you can lapse today?
How could they possibly know what the call rate is on any given day? Are they mad?

In our office the threshold for lapsing used to be 200,000 items on any given day, so a lino would come out and write the traffic count on a whiteboard for everyone to see. You wouldn't believe the number of days where the count was around 199,900 items. The whiteboard is long gone, however, they can't be bothered to keep up the pretense and we are now obliged to lapse every day.

When a walk is on overtime in our office the door to doors are left under the frame the overtime boys don‘t bother with them.
They are only interested in covering the walk then and not the door to doors.
My cousin is a postie in another part of the city he tells me that absorption is on a first come first served basis there, he said the minute its thrown off the knobs run like a bat out of hell to get the nearest 35 houses near the office.
The part with the door to doors in are left till last, all the dead legs cop for that.

s**t like this makes the job worse.. In my office we have a set walk and set street(s) to cover, thus no issues with running-grabbers..

Of course we are expected to take it every day as the figures never quite reach the giddy heights they have been set at.. Even when it's busy they start the pathetic grovel routine, knowing full well they don't have the staff to cover the walk and trying everything they can to avoid taking it themselves the lazy twats!

A Simple guide is has been produced below that gives some indication of what amount of time should generally be required to handle D2D indoor and outdoor, and where absorption is mentioned this time will need to be taken fully into consideration. All the figures are Royal Mail figures.
