They did very well out of it. Holding on to a job for years trying to look busy, creating work to fill the gaps, just butter up the right people and it will go on for ever. Hats off to them for securing tens of thousands of pounds of Royal Mails/tax payers money in pay, above what they were worth.

Maybe RM have realised that through their own concieved revision tools(IWT,GEOROUTE) that we're worked up to the max, there are no savings to be made in deliveries and the dead wood they've been carrying for years;project managers,planning teams and the rest of the useless pen pushers are sapping the profits and surplus to requirements.Squeeky bum cheek time for some managers that have grown fat on over inflated pay packets,performance bonuses and cushy jobs they can no longer justify.

However in my defence, that is a question I would like answered. We have accepted change after change after change, so are they now saying there really was no strategy at all and the staff have just been jerked around like puppets? Because this latest scenario would point to just that,not to mention the 60,000 members of staff who have lost their jobs in those intervening years.

It is really simple whats been happening we all know that both Adam and Allan created a crisis and then said they turned the business around creamed off all the bonuses and Allan went to live in Canada and Adam to pastures new on TV.

They got out at the time they new would avoid them having to face the real crisis and that is the pensions , compeiition , the loss of the post office subisidy and of course the change of ownership and the lack of cash flow.

The changes which is in this powerpoint presentation is just the start as the new management regieme is going to have to face the presures of the ownership debate , post comms headroom access review and overall review , the ongoing agreement , the loss of the POL government subsidy which will have a massive effect on counters and the lack of cash which have the protential to effect MTSF and whole range of other issues.

Faced with the crisis which will unfold the union and the membership are much stronger having an agreement in place then facing the crisis without an agreement and at the whim of both Royal Mail , the government and any protential buyer.

But dingo...we are at the whim of Royal Mail since they appear to be moving the goalposts at will..especially up here.
We appear to be at the whim of this Goverment while they hold the pension deficit over us knowing that they are the only one with the power to resolve it.
And any potential buyer is unlikely to be in place before 2012...just as this deal is due to limp over the finishing line.
The crisis will unfold and the deal will unravel and that 3.5% in 2012 will be pie in the sky....i'm sure SHE already believes that 3.5% for one year in these austere times is a tad excessive.

Simple? That is probably the most banal explanation of these circumstances I could imagine. If the union knew the circumstances then why would they agree to the changes the shop floor have faced time and time again without adequate response? How can we be sure that any measures of the agreement will be adhered to and if the modernisation program will go ahead as planned?




So I wouldn't call it simple, though there are some things that are.
