It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's been appalling in our DO.. In addition to extra D2D pressure we've had the start of the Autumn/through to Chrimbo surge (electoral registration really has been the icing on the cake!) Yet we're STILL lapsing walks at least once a week... DOM tries to BS about there being no significant increase in traffic - and at the same time is unwilling and/or unable to provide a breakdown of flats v. letters. Coz let's face it, this is one of our major problems with workload measurement, both indoor and outdoor - FLATS TAKE SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER to a) sort; b) prep; c) tie up; d) deliver - not to mention the fact that a high flat count often leads to pouches having to be broken down....

Will someone in this company GET REAL ABOUT WORKLOAD.. and soon!

Electoral registration letters came in Saturday at my D.O and we were allowed to do them over three days. :Applause

Had to be done in 1 day but no lapsing because of it.

If I go over my time through prepping d2d am I entitled to claim overtime? I've heard mixed messages on this and no doubt my DOM will say "NO". Would appreciate clarification.
Yes.
For the record, I tried to claim 1 hour o/t for prepping d2d last week. My dom has refused to pay it.
What have I done to deserve this?

There is a supposed standard for the prepping of D2D.
Per 500 delivery points/day
1 contract 4 mins
2 contracts 8 mins
3 contracts 10 mins
4 contracts 11 mins
5 contracts 12 mins

So if your walk had 750 delivery points and you had 2 D2D contracts, you could legitimately claim your prep took 12 minutes/day or 72 minutes over the week, if you aren't allowed sufficient prep time to do this.
Alternatively, just claim it as extended delivery until your DOM understands that D2D is now in workload.

Claimed as extended delivery but refused. No doubt my DOM understands that I'm entitled this but it's not in his interest to pay it so it doesn't happen.

Then it's a grievance for non-payment of overtime.
And you cut off.

Yes I've considered that and I've also considered how colleagues at our place are generally treated once they've put in a grievance. The whole grievance procedure is flawed. It's just not worth the hassle.

The grievance procedure is simply a way of formally registering that you are unhappy about something in the office.
Normally grievances are taken out against managers and normally because they are abusing their position of power.
If people are subject to harrassment in any form because they have put in a grievance then that is more reason for grievances to be put in against managers and for using the bullying and harrassment procedure.
If people abuse the procedure then the system becomes weaker.
If you have a genuine grievance what else can you do?
Either you use the system or, in your case, you accept having to work for free.
First try and talk to your manager and see if he has (in his eyes) legitimate reasons for not paying the o/t.
Talk to your rep and let him know your concerns. Talk to the area rep as well if you want.
If you feel you are being fobbed off because you are a female, then your Branch may have a woman's officer you can contact and talk to.
But don't let it rest. Even if after everything you don't get your o/t paid, you will feel better for having tried.
