Do you seriously think that most employees on p/t contracts are on them by choice? They are p/t because that's the only type of job they were able to get!

Re: THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?
Thinking outside the box
Couldn't the CWU try and get a sliding scale of pay
for example - (figures are for ease and should not be used in real world)
00-10 Hours - £9.00
11-20 Hours - £9.50
21-30 Hours - £10.00
31-40 Hours - £10.50
40 + Hours Time + 1/2 at the less than 10 hours rate.
(40 hours would change to 39 in line with 2010 agreement)
This has the benefit of rising pay for overtime for PTimers, but avoids the pitfalls of PT doing 40 hours getting paid more than a FT on 40 hours.
Thoughts.

Re: THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?
Given the fact that our union is prepared to sacrifice so many of our terms in order to preserve FT work ,perhaps they should push harder for a 35 hr week and combine it with a demand for all OT to be paid at double time. If they got that ,I would guarantee an increase in FT contracts post haste

Re: THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?
How about these 2 scenarios
1,4 FT buy down hours to 20 hours and 1 poor little put upon PT is increased in deal to FT,The 4 former FT work overtime upto 40 hours and get time & half for twenty hours making their pay for 40 hour week £90 more than poor little PT made up will new FT be happy then. Or then add on £20000 for the former FTs for the buy down payment.
2, 2 FT decide to do job share working 3 days a week on 20 hour contract. Then come in on days off and get overtime payments for those 3 days giving them £90 approx a week more than everybody else doing same amount of hours.
Above are situations that could happen(or maybe have happened without the extra OT payments)is that a fairer way than present system and would it cause less bitching.

Re: THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?
The OT rate in RM is a disgrace. It's the only employer in the the Uk that i think only gives you little over a pound extra on top of your basic rate for OT and reduces it to basic after 10 hours OT. On the point of the number of hours given for doing on duties still to be covered would vary i guess on how desperate they were. In our office they struggle to get deliveries covered on OT. No one wants to do it. If i've not been busy doing anything i've done a row and haggled and got 3hrs for it. A few weeks ago on a Sat they really struggled. No one working their days off/annual leave. I again used the situation to my benefit. Prepped my own duty from the moment i started, had another duty prepped for me and left the office at 8.30am and delivered both duties. I know it may have helped them out but it also benefited me. Home for my usual time 8hrs OT in the bag and the Mon off! :)

Don't do overtime, its as simple as that
. Its not worth it anymore, let the managers deliver it! They want to cut everything to the bone so let them reap their rewards. They are all getting stressed out having to prep s**t loads of walks now and take some of them out. Our office needs a bigger whiteboard to list the uncovered walks
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

People who take jobs on PT basis know score before they start if 20 hours doesn't support their families and that's the contract offered DONT take the job. It's no good taking the contract offered then starting bleating how they cannot support their families so feel entitled to overtime at a higher rate of pay than a full time colleague.
Their is family credit for those with families to do that.
Point about if overtime is regular I can accept that their contracted hours should be increased to reflect this but for this to happen you would need a united worforce and strong union leadership anyone think we have either.![]()

We've got a couple of part-timers in our office using these arguments about O/T rates and its complete B*lls !!!! As a previous post has said a part-timer would earn MORE for a 40 hour week than a full timer !!! If they got what they thought should happen ,then I would reduce my full time contract to about 20 hours a week, pick up O/T (always available in my office) work about 33 hours a week and earn full time wage...Simples !!! By the way, when I started the job I was on part-time of 30 hours, so I supplemented it by working in another part-time job in a supermarket .If people are really desperate for the money they will find ways of earning it !!!

Yep, my way too. I think if we had an overtime ban instead of a strike we would have got a better deal than what we've got now.Stormproof wrote:Don't do overtime, its as simple as that. Yes. If they want you to work over your contracted hours, no matter what that contract is, you should be paid overtime rate. Also, it might encourage RM to issue proper contracts. It would deter the use of 1 hour contracts.gb93 wrote: So you think it is perfectly reasonable for someone on a 25 hour contract to work 40 hours and be paid more than someone on a 40 hour contract
Is it fair that a full timer working one hour overtime gets more for that hour than a part timer gets for working one hour overtime? Not in my opinion.

We used to have one and voted it outfishtank wrote:A national premium overtime system is long overdue.
Time and a half for weekday OT, double time for Sat OT and shift allowance when you did nights on OT. 13 Years ago we got more for working a Friday night then we would now

Everybody is paid the same rate up to 40 hours & for the 1st 10 hours after that, common please what is fairer than that.NewPostieUK wrote:Yes. The Delivery supplement is SO unfair but 1 person working 40 hours and getting £90 more than another person working 40 hours is PERFECTLY REASONABLE, give me strengh.

I think the union sanctioned the pitiful OT rate to discourage OT and protect FT jobs. What they didn't bank on was the sheer brain dead stupidity of many of the workforce.crockboy wrote:The OT rate in RM is a disgrace. Re: THIRD OF A WALK O/T. How much time are YOU allowed?
Do you honestly think RM would have so many PT contracts IF OT was paid from minute #1 beyond contracted hours? Or to put it another way.....as a DOM, should I employ 10 FTs, each getting 40hrs a week, whether working, sick or on leave....or should I employ 6 FTs X 40hrs & 4 PTs X 25hrs, then apply a little pressure, maybe some will come in early, use their cars, not bother coming back to the DO & book docket, do what they can to cover the missing hours, etc, etc....even if they don't, I'll be saving 15hrs, per PT, per week every week they work, they go sick, on leave, etc - even if they book OT, I'm not paying anything extra.....and all this applies to any pension payments, bonus payments, delivery supplements, and I can nip off to the golf course for my meeting with the DSM and give him the good news!gb93 wrote:Everybody is paid the same rate up to 40 hours & for the 1st 10 hours after that, common please what is fairer than that.NewPostieUK wrote:Yes.
