If you've got a d2d with a fold, have the fold at the top when putting in the frame. It's easier to put stuff in afterwards and to flick through when you're out.

This is something I do with specials
I tear of the tickets and stick them on my card in the order that they will be delivered
and write under each bar code 3 acacia drv, 17 queen st etc.
this way, as i get one signature im aware whats coming next.
when i was new i was forever backtracking.

I used to write in pencil just the house number, but gave up sticking the bar codes on when it started to confuse the customers who signed in some weird places.
I asked one to sign in Box 2 - they signed in box 2 alright the one you write the amount of specials in

This is absolutely right, and also you are not supposed to put the stickers on the card until you reach the properties. I used to stick them on before I left the office together with the names of the companies on my firms round and was forever being 'called into the office' as Sheffield (where all the cards are sent to) had yet again sent out a complaint about my cardsfishtank wrote:I'm not sure your allowed to write the address anymore chunk.chunk wrote:This is something I do with specials

That was until I invested in a pencil and rubber, judicious use of the latter being done on return to the office

Such is life. No need to worry.DJLEIGHP wrote:Hi im a new postie been in job 3 weeks been on walk with loads of flats and i couldnt gain acess and bought 2 bundles of mail back and ive put no acess on the letters bit worried ill been done for wilfuull delay
The thing to do is to ask others how to get in. It might be on a timer system, need a key or pass-code, or have an entrance around a different side. You can also try ringing a few flats asking to be let in; you soon find people that are always in and only too happy to let you in.

Rule of thumb is to buzz everyone who you have a letter for if the time lock is on.Yes it's a pain but it covers your arse.bigcol wrote:Such is life. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
If I have a special or packet or whatever that's too big to put in the bundle with the letters, I just write "P" on the first letter for that house. Or some other symbol that's easy enough for you to remember.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Put as much as you can in a bundle. All those play.com, Amazon, etc DVDs and other small packets. Saves routing around in your bag.
If you've got a few packets of the same type, e.g. light bulbs, write the number on the side facing up as you put it in your bag.

Re: ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
1. No doom and gloom please.
2. Only 1 piece of advice per post just to keep from overwhelming the newbies. But post as much as advice as you want.
3. No swearing.
4. No them and us posts.
5. You can post in any visible or easy to read colour and any size. In fact the more important the bigger is a good way to grade the advice.

Never enter a premises if there is a dog loose, no matter how small or cute it may appear.
Never believe a householder when they say their dog is friendly.
A dog's bark is NEVER worse than it's bite and even if it's friendly today, you do NOT know what it will be like tomorrow. Dogs do NOT know you are the postie, to it, you are an intruder and it WILL defend it's home and it's pack (owners). There are thousands of animal attacks on posties EVERY year, don't be one of them.

Take plenty of water/drinks out with you to avoid dehydration, two 500ml bottles fit nicely in the right hand pocket of your pouch bag.
