Re: Doorstepping
If you doorstep without written confirmation you are putting your job at risk.
The one time it goes wrong someone might get sacked and it won't be the customer.
People like to say they are doing it for the customer but in reality they do it to make it easier for themselves. And if these customers are really grateful they won't mind putting the instruction in writing so there can't be any misunderstandings.
Elsewhere on this forum there are stories of posties being sacked for minor misdemeanours. Why would anyone think doorstepping is a good idea, ever?

Nope if anything that could be worse. I know of neighbours that have ongoing feuds. The packet might return to the addressee with a turd in it.

Re: Doorstepping
Yeah I would say fine, I regularly leave parcels with neighbours as I know they are friendly to each other.

Dodgy posties - leaving items on doorsteps (except light bulbs)
Common sense posties - leaving items in a safe place - shed, blue bin (NOT on collection week as they could be on holiday!)
Jobsworths - Leaving nothing whatsoever and a 739 for every piece of cr*p that won't fit through the box.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Common sense posties ensure they have written confirmation before leaving anything in an unsecure location. What if someone sees what you do day in day out and just follows you around picking up the parcels? I have known it happen.OnAFlyer wrote:Dodgy posties - leaving items on doorsteps (except light bulbs)

Do you have any say in training newstarts? How responsible would it be to tell them the s**t you write and then watch them lose their job if something goes wrong?
Call me a jobsworth if you want.I don't remember calling you names but carry on if you want.

Re: Doorstepping
Get written confirmation from the customer before doorstepping...really not worth the risk with these c-nts in charge. Is it worth a Serious/or Dismissal?

Re: Doorstepping
IME the people that have parcels day in day out are usually in to receive them or have made a proper arrangement. I also wouldn't leave a packet anywhere when I am in view of passers by whilst doing it.clashcityrocker wrote:Common sense posties ensure they have written confirmation before leaving anything in an unsecure location. Like I said, common sense. Some people just don't have it though.
PS: I didn't call you a name - but the definition of a jobsworth is someone that follows every rule to the letter regardless of what service the customer wants. If the cap fits and all that.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but a house was once robbed, This was due to the thief saying he noticed a parcel outside a house for 5 days running.

Re: Doorstepping
Fucksake leave it with a neighbour then P739 through the door telling them who you've left it with. If the neighbour don't talk or like each, few on my walk like that! they let you know so its simple try the next door. I've got to big a walk and to much mail to be shut noticing every packet/parcel or large item that doesn't fit through a letter-box... to be hoofing it with me til a finish and take it back to the office.. ( say you've got a parcel for 1st door - no answer - P739 still carrying it 3.5hrs later.. no thanxs where's it gonna fit when you get to your next box and you re-fill your bag, then by the time your on your 4th / 5th drop-bag or how many bags you have, maybe a extra packet/parcel that no-ones been in P739'd again 'n' again where's the space for anything else??? )

Correct as it classed a failure to ensure security and care of mail.
Its just like dropping it in the middle of the street and walking away.
That's why I do the job properly, end of.
