A Search i guess :Very Happy

Also I think its because when you read through some of this thread most of it is still very relevant to life at RM. If anything (esp. part timers) I think it may have actually got worse. :hmmmm

If you’re prepping, you’ll get quicker at it. Once you been on the same duty for a fair few months you’ll find that you know the peoples’ names for each address. That will make you both quicker and more accurate.

Sure, you’re pounding the same pavements day in, day out, but that’s what we do. Some people want the chance of signing in to a regular duty others prefer to have the variety of working a number of different duties. Ask your line manager if you want to change.

It’s human nature to believe that the duty that you are on is the “hardest in the office”. Everyone feels this way about their duty but they can’t all be the worst! Geography and demographics make it virtually impossible to make all walks equal, however many revisions are undertaken.
Certainly the old stagers will have cherry-picked the duties to make sure that they’ve got the best that’s on offer but that’s inevitable. Don’t forget that they were once in the position that you now find yourself. They had to start too. They’ve done their ‘apprenticeship’, now they’re reaping the somewhat scant rewards.

In truth, it may well be that you’re on a tough ‘un but if you are finishing on time, or only slightly going over, then you haven’t got too much to complain about. The decision to go over is your choice. No one should be forcing you to do overtime.

You are not “working for nothing”. You are working for the salary, plus any overtime, that was offered to you when you joined, that hasn’t changed. Don’t let the green-eyed monster make you unhappy with your lot, there are a lot worse jobs out there and, yes believe me, a lot worse employers.
a lot worse employers i can't think of any !!! :mfo :cfo :hmmmm
Well try working for the company I just left!!! In the 11 months I was there I was paid on time twice, mostly it went in on the first of the month, one month it went in 3 days late. One month I was £300 short. I asked him why and he said "Sorry I must have pressed the wrong button!" I got it 2 days later. Oh yes, the staff never received payslips.

There are plenty of terrible employers out there, trust me.
Somebody called me a cult the other day, well I think that was what he said!

So you have just started and have a bad round and guys who have been there years get it a little easier. If you'd been with the company 20 years you would think you've earned the chance to pick the round you want. Get over it or get out, Royal Mail may not be the best employer ever but trust me there are far worst !
What have you earned ? If I earn the same money I expect things to be equal.

RMs problem is the piss poor quality of management and the fact that old timers think they have some kind or special rights !!!

I have to admit since writing my first post I have managed to get back within my time two days on the trot, which is a plus I suppose. I know I'm lucky to have some sort of work, and I should be grateful, whats not helping is all the uncertainty in our office, with talk of walks getting bigger, park and loop, no more bikes, it make sme wonder if there will be any jobs in six months time to worry about.

Someone said the other day that all the bikes are being replaced with electric vans, and as the diesel vans need changing they will go electric too, Bloody hell they will have us delivering milk next.
You claim Royal Mail's the worst company you've worked for but surely your problem is your "so called workmates" who "find it great fun to laugh at me" so is it just you or other new starters that get this unsympathetic treatment from them ?
Maybe you should have stuck with your previous occupation. :Very Happy

i hated when i first started... and have slowly learned to like my job, and its pay.
I do however not appreciaite being told im stupid... and being looked at like something they've just trod in, for some minor error, if any error... however im very thick skinned, and just keep going...
some people can cope and some can't... its unfair that we are meant to take abuse, and pressure... that should be the doms. Royal mail works on good will and when that has run dry, blackmails and threats.

I know that new blokes like me comng in at the bottom can't expect to get the best jobs straight away, but bloody hell, theres no respite, I'm trudging the same pavements day after day, working to my time, and sometimes a bit over every bloody day, and my so called workmates fin dit great fun to laugh at me when they cycle past having finished their walks well ahead of time, now going back to the office to SO and FO, and when IO casually look at the finish time they put in lo and behold it's always bang on their due finish time, and when you challenge a Union Rep or a manager about it, they just shrug their shoulders. One bloke even said to me that as a floater he refuses to do my walk on my day off because he'd have to work to time!, that just about did it for me, Am I a mug or what.

it's about time the Union started to look after everyone, form those who have been with RM a month to those who have been with them donkeys years, RM are letting some get away with blue murder while others (mostly Part timers ) like myself are gettting s**t on from agreat height, i can think of no other workplace where the pracitce that Royal Mail and the Union have put together would be accepted, it's just diabolically Victorian and archaic.

The firdt thin gthey should do is introduce a tag system where by these Tw*ts on easy walks can be timed and watched by GPS, and then RM should think abotu paying people for the amount they deliver, not by the hour, then lets see who wants the walks that only take 1 hr to complete,

Royal Mail I'v had a guts full, Royal Maul I call it, and it's people like me who getting mauled, well I'm looking for another job, where I'm not treated like an idiot and expected to work for nothing.

email Moya Greene mate.

Being new at Royal Mail absolutely sucks.

If you can get through the first 3-4 months though, it does get better as others have mentioned, you get quicker, you become a hardier person less bothered by the weather, you learn all the little tricks to make life a bit easier.

Still I agree with most of what you said, we get treated like idiots and lied to, almost daily, by our 'managers'. I also remember on my first walk, the guy on the walk next to me who did the other much easier part of the same area, he used to wave to me at like 1pm as he was just about to finish. I'd be out til 2.30-3.15pm each day. How is that fair? I was fairly new, which could explain maybe 30 minutes, but when there is an hour and a half to 2 hour discrepancy, you know he's onto an good thing.

I agree there is too much discrepancy between between the easy walks and the hard walks. P&L has evened things out a lot more nowadays, but until they properly time people on their walks over say a few week period, then things will never be fair. You just get used to it mate, the Royal Mail isn't fair, once you've realised that, then you have a decision to make. I was reaching the end of my tether with my own walk and would have left if it carried on, thankfully P&L came in and I got put on a totally different walk that is probably 50% easier than the trudge I had previously.
