The independent reviewer is supposed to be just that .. independent .. and i believe ACAS are to assist with negotiations, not arbitrate to bring forth an agreement which is binding on both sides.

We are being asked to take a lot on trust .. past history tells that trust is misplaced. The rhetoric is fine, achieving a binding agreement based on that rhetoric is a whole different ball-game, and i fear the worse!

It is going to be difficult to motivate people back onto the picket lines now with xmas so close, the momentum is lost again.

Than what are you doing posting every 10 seconds slagging off the agreement? It looks pretty straightforward to me and addresses everything I was on strike for.

As someone has already pointed out, almost everything on your list of demands for stopping the strikes is mentioned in the agreement, as is D2D's, workloads, pay/benefits, better Manager/staff relationships (that works both ways remember), and going to ACAS which is a big plus point for us.

Firstly 'OnAFlyer' I don't think I have been posting negative comments about the agreement 'every 10 seconds'.

Secondly I did mention on the original post that a lot about the agreement does go over my head. I also stated I was relying on the more intelligent and knowledgable people on here to point me in the right direction. I don't think you fall into that category of people.

Like I said, a lot of the agreement did go over my head and I made my comments on what I did observe.

I think my biggest observation is that we are trusting Royal Mail to play ball. We have give them the breathing space they so needed. We played into their hands.

How can you trust a company that treats their workforce like something they've stepped in?

Perhaps your not treated like sh*t 'OnAFlyer'. Well done you. The majority of us are though and to be perfectly blunt think this 'interim agreement' is a lot of balls! We had our trump card of causing disruption over Christmas if needed. We have now lost that power forever. We have nothing. We are relying on the talks to make the changes we all want and need. If the talks fail, so what? Royal Mail will have Christmas over and as so many people have stated, holiday books being delayed in Janurary will not have the same effect as causing delays at Christmas.

I ask you one more question 'OnAFlyer'.....did people go and strike and lose up to £1000+ to see the two sides 'talk'? We needed something more definite and concrete. Royal Mail were crumbling before our eyes. We had public support! If we had continued with the action and causing disruption we could of had something with a little more substance as opposed to a 'chit chat'.

Sci dog - when you say you are relying on more intelligent and knowlegeable people - are they not the negotiators and the PEC which unanimously voted in favour of the interim agreement?

were never going to get anywhere with all this if we dont co-op and work together to take Royal Mail to the ground.

I don't want to labour a point sam, but isn't that what the strike would have done if the leadership had persisted?

All London Area reps and Branch secretaries attended a meeting last Friday with Dave Ward for him to explain the agreement and answer questions. In addition the 4 London members of the postal executive were at the meeting.

Now lets get a few things straight

1. The interim agreement is exactly that , it will test whether Royal Mail are going to be committed to resolving the local disputes and are serious about reaching agreement on all the aspects which the agreement states.

2. There is no agreement to no strikes and the review will determine if there are further strikes. The PEC passed the ammendment to that fact.

3. Royal Mail cannot impose any further changes for the life time of these negotations. So if they drag their heels in talks then they will simply not achieve their budget targets and the senior managers bonuses.

4. The taken off pay which has seen hundreds of postman being victimised will stop and there will be a full review of all cases. Over 350 cases in London alone will come under that review.

5. Normal resourcing levels in all places so overtime will be back and some of the casual sites will be closed down. Royal Mail couldn't get 30 000 casuals in the first place at the moment they have just over 5000 less than what they use normally at christmas.

6. All work returns to it"s parent office so that means no mail will be going to the so called scab centres unless agreed.

7. The best protection we have ever had in an agreement for individuals who have been taken under the conduct code.

8. Someone independent to oversee both the local and national talks who have been approved by ACAS and will have Acas supplementory staff working to them.

9 The TUC have brokered the deal with Government support and will also be involved if management breaks its terms.

10 The best wording we have seen on improving basic pay ,working hours , the future of deliveries and a resolution to the imposed network 2009.

Now I fully accept that the test of all these things will be found out in the talks we will be having in the next few days with management. In London we have our first meetings with the regional directors on Tuesday and Wednesday. The outcome of those meetings will decide whether in London this agreement is going to work. But when we starting striking in June management didnt even want to meet us let alone did we have words which state that we now have to review and reach agreement which include overall job numbers , earnings , attendances , resigns.

In addition I realise that some members in the comms vaccum since Friday will be influence by some of the posters on here who believe that the CWU have sold out and the fact that Higson and Barber came out and said about a strike free period.

Hopefully the comms which will come out this week will change their mind and of course this week will determine whether this agreement can work.

Surely we owe that to the members.

A lot of words, but nothing really tangible for me.

Open minded but not very optimistic.
