Unless like some who like me don't believe in shares being issued in what they think should stay a public service. IMHO issuing shares to RM staff is a PR stunt that has short term gains, but I think will have long term drawbacks.Night Tonic wrote:Leighton wanted us all to have real shares but government refused. Wait till you see how much profit the minority shareholder clocks up on the value of its share over the next few years when it sells it to someone else, then you'll wish Leighton had managed to push it through. Too late now.

Re: Why don't we buy a share?
I'd prefer us or the general public to get a chance to buy shares than it to be a private sale to TNT. TNT profits are down this year ours are up so why do we need their so called expertise in a job they don't actually want to do. Yes our managments s**t and needs changed but whilst a TNT takeover would get rid of some of the drift wood in our current managment structure it will also bring in some absolute crackers in thier place that won;t have a clue about how to run Royal Mail. I totally agree that if any privatisation happens it will be the start of a full privatisation at a later date and that would be extremley detremental to the service we provide.
What if Royal Mail were able to charge direct access mail what it costs to deliver each item, what if we fixed our prices the same for business as for private individuals. Lets face it most of the stuff we deliver is unwanted by the recipient so why should SKY etc get cheaper rates ?
If we did that, that more than anything would encourage competition in our industry.
