I work at HWDC and the volume of international mail has gone through the ceiling. We were taking in in excess of 130 lorry-loads around Christmas time and last Monday was absolutely murderous, more work than even the Christmas peak period. My blood boils when I hear ignorant politician mouthing 'email' all the time as an excuse to sell of RM. In my experience the volume has gone well above double since I started work on the shop-floor in HWDC and since the closure of the International network offices and consolidation of export under our roof. HWDC is bursting at the seams. We are processing millions of items and in excess of 10,000 bags every single night. The public should be made aware that 'email' is just a false pretext to flog off their postal service and the internet has made the business more valuable and necessary. Where is the CWU? They miserably failed to defend us against government's disinformation and propaganda schemes. Sometime I seriously think that even the union is a part of the conspiracy to privatize people's postal service. We will have to take this whole affair in our own hands and lobby our MPs to stop Mandelson's proposals in the parliament, let people know that postal service has a very bright future in the age of the internet and email and politicians are lying and trying to steal people's postal service for a quick buck. I think that the Labour party have realized that they have no chance of winning the next elections and they just want to quickly sell off whatever they can, take their share of the deals, line their own pockets and :mfo

I'm not completely sure but I think they have fallen by a small amount, however packet volumes have nearly doubled. It could also be that there are more smaller letters and less flats.

I would say that Royal Mails volumes have fallen by a 30%+ because a lot of the letters are now from our competitors and they are mostly gas bills etc (i.e. not new but lost business)
