I didn't realise it was 4 years ago, but there you have it in black and white and underlined from the CWU.

Re: Temperatures
I doubt they'll send people out during a red warning period.
It's just too risky - for us AND potentially for them

And what was said in the morning briefing to you all, to pre-empt this ?

Re: Temperatures
Haven’t reached that temperature yet but manager has said don’t walk all of the duty for the rest of the week if you don’t want to. Just take everything but 2c on approximately half of the duty. We are also starting half an hour earlier.BenacreNick wrote: ↑22 Jun 2026, 15:51Did any Delivery Office reach the 35c temperature today anywhere in the UK ?

Re: Temperatures
Just remember that weather forecast temperatures are for in the SHADE, so in direct sunlight - which most of us posties will be - will be even higher than the predicted 38/39c!

Re: Temperatures
And when you're in and out of a wagon that's sits intermittently in the baking sun or pushing a HCT on heated tarmac/concrete surfaces amongst reflections from shop windows and concrete buildings etc. you experience temperatures much, much hotter than the published 'in the shade' temperatures.nightcrawler wrote: ↑Yesterday, 09:21Just remember that weather forecast temperatures are for in the SHADE, so in direct sunlight - which most of us posties will be - will be even higher than the predicted 38/39c!

Re: Temperatures
I am sure nothing has changed in the year since i left, in the winter you are told to evaluate the risk and if you decide it is too dangerous then don't do it.
When there's a dog you don't do it.
If you think you are about to collapse in the extreme heat then stop what you are doing and get inside. They put the onus for health and safety on the postie years ago to try to deflect liability and if a manager insists that you put yourself in danger get it in front of a witness and in writing, that should be enough to change their mind.
