Pension Surplus- The EP agreement says we will get a share of the pension surplus when the Trustees are satisfied. There are two pension surpluses , the first is from the Care Scheme and the other. Is from the Cash balance which is smaller.
When we get a share it will go into the employee benefit scheme which will also generate 10% of any profit made by the company in future pay rises. What does that even mean ? Sorry for being thick could someone explain that
This surplus was at risk of going exclusively to EP. At the appropriate point the union and our democratic process including our conference with decide how we use it. There is a motion at this years conference asking the union to use the pension surplus to reduce from 67 to 65 the age under new pension scheme when you receive your full pension. It would have been doubtful the trustees would have done that-technically yes they could do that...but not very likely unless they were pressured by RM.
I see the CWU have put themselves centre in deciding what happens - what about a vote to members on how they would like their money used.
A choice of options and pension scheme members only vote on how the pension surplus is used. It is our money
Who exactly asked the CWU to decide what happens to our pension money - members of the scheme certainly did not.
Colleagues should get a wriggle on and make representations to their branch how they want the branch to vote at:
CATEGORY A: Conference notes that the RMCPP has an NRA of 67.
The Postal Executive is instructed, working with the CWU Trustees, to
negotiate an NRA of 65, possibly funded by the surplus within the previous
RM pension scheme.
London Phoenix
The arrogance of the CWU deciding what they will do with our money without consulting us in any way is a disgrace.
Who even asked them to get involved.
Martin Walsh has to come on here and clarify these points and tell us exactly what the CWU are doing.
I know it is up to the trustees but RM/CWU will put great pressure on them to release the surplus because they want their greedy hands on a huge amount of money.
The only people who will have had or will have NO say on any of this is us the actual members of the scheme.
Disgrace and legalised theft.

Not a member of the RMPP scheme myself, but absolutely agree with you H. The CWU have got this on their Conference Agenda and the PE policy is to accept the motion for the PE to negotiate the reduction of NRA in the NEW pension possibly funded by RMPP surplus.
So if you think about it, CWU members who are only members of the newer RMDCP/CPP are indirectly voting (through their branch vote) on what happens to the RMPP surplus.
But they've separated out the pay rise vote as part of equalisation for the newer members only. Double standards I call it.
its all very amaterish this cwu ive worked in other companies and hands down this is the worst union, total self presrevation - im alright jack type of union don't represent the members who pay them, but always side with the skint company who are able to consistely afford to pay managers bonuses year in year out thats how skint they are. Nobody knows the future so its pretty pathetic to assume the company is going break even at best and scare monger us the companys in a bad shape every year. If I was a CWU top tier I wouldn't be coming on here mouthing off orders to the posties, the volume of self inflicted damage from the union selling out terms and conditions, total surrender to the company do what u want with their terms and condtions long as the cwu are okay. Posties are all burnout tired and a lot of regulars have left fed up with what was once a good job to be let down by their feeble union, sad days.

It's self preservation from the CWU, they have realised that the RM gravy train is about to run dry, how can Dave and Martin keep getting 6 figure salaries if the membership drops off a cliff, so now they are fighting to keep jobs anyway they can to keep them in the lifestyle they have come to enjoy.
This is the second time they have gone silent during and leading up to a vote, refusing to answer hard questions like they don't owe any explanation to it's membership unless you agree with them.
They know what goes on with delivery and choose to downplay and ignore any of the problems. They have no answers and think by pushing their unachievable agenda forward it will safeguard their future.
They are supposed to represent you, the humble postie, and fight for your conditions of work and not actually make them worse.

MW replied - Under ODM they were to be made surplus, they would have had to do all mail Mon-Fri (so not surplus then?)
Under DM26 all 6000 non drivers have a role, it's a much better role.
That's it.
So, Martin, if you're reading this (or anyone else?) what is the role on a Saturday, as people in our office need to know.
What's the betting DW will be whining in media interviews later this year that the new owner is just as bad as the old board when it comes to implementing the agreed "safeguards"?
If we vote "yes" there's no way in my DO we will be waiting to fill any vacancies before implementing DM26.
He basically said all offices have to be fully staffed before any implementation.
Lets see how that goes
Offices, many without reps, are being expected to implement the biggest change ever to deliveries in history. But don't worry, there are strict safeguards in place to make it all go smoothly and nothing will be fully implemented until everything is working properly. Hours will go in, duties will go in, work will be split evenly.

He meant surplus on Saturdays plus more people will be off too
They could send all mech trays to prep instead of just 1st class
Prep d2ds
Deliver around the DO area
Help drivers out if they've got too much
Get sent to other offices
Get sent to MC
And not forgetting DW suggestion knock on OAPs to check on them!
We could do their shopping and gardening for them

Being sent to a MC is highly unlikely give the massive geographical area some MCs cover. Being sent to another DO is also highly unlikely as like their own DO, they'd need drivers not non-drivers
