Re: TRIAL OFFICES
Seems the CWU and Royal Mail have planned these trials immaculately....
2nd Class and 1st Class going into frames yet you have to pull out the 1st class letters only when you bag up.
Absolute geniuses! well done to the CWU and Royal Mail. Being led by the blind.

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
Just the 1c alone was never going to happen, the DTS releases any mail as soon as it hits the time limit, when it does ALL mail for them DPs gets released at the same time.
It it was only 1C being run, tbqf I wouldn't bother running it, I'd just send it as manual, there'd probably be a large bundle for all the walks at most. If the machine were to extract all the 2C and DSA then I wouldn't bother running the 2nd and 3rd passes, I'd just send what is left as manual. If you take away the 2C and DSA, then there's almost f**k all left.

Sounds like you have just given them an idea for big savings in the mail centres.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 May 2025, 07:37Just the 1c alone was never going to happen, the DTS releases any mail as soon as it hits the time limit, when it does ALL mail for them DPs gets released at the same time.

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
No real savings as such. They'd have us on the packets them days, so less casuals needed. Don't know if there's one office budget for casuals or if each shift has its own budget for them.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑28 May 2025, 18:29Sounds like you have just given them an idea for big savings in the mail centres.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 May 2025, 07:37Just the 1c alone was never going to happen, the DTS releases any mail as soon as it hits the time limit, when it does ALL mail for them DPs gets released at the same time.

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
Work from home has hit the firms walks big time. Before Covid, most of firms walks would have a full tray at the very minimum every day without fail, they don't anymore

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
It seems like the plot thickens. We've just been told that it won't be a whole walk that has a non-2C day, it'll either be the first half of the walk or the second half of the walk.
We don't yet know what RM plan on doing Friday nights, as if it's just 1C only we might as well send the 1C as manual. RM need to confirm that if we do run the batches as normal, will the DTS release either any 2C or DSA where there's a 1C item or where the 2C or DSA has hit the time limit.

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
Instead of the CWU relentlessly and ruthlessly pushing RM's idea of USO Reform, what they should be doing instead (if they are not doing it) is collecting all evidence of the delivery failures by encouraging its members to anonymously log undelivered or delayed mail, track all frame clearances and use photo evidence where appropriate. The goal should be to show the systematic delivery failures that are caused by pilot restructuring. The CWU could also design an app where workers from different pilot offices can report delays, missed DPs or excessive workloads so they map delivery shortfalls across all the pilot sites and highlight where overtime is being used to mask failure rather than manage it.
Then what the CWU needs to do is present all this evidence to Ofcom and MPs showing all the increased missed delivery points, the repeated failures to deliver the 1c on time, show the overtime dependancy and the disproportionate increases in workload compared to staffing. They need to expose that RM are failing the public USO and then push for what they originally wanted: a 5 day USO Monday to Friday for letters with weekend delivery for parcels and suggest that this model best reflects customers needs, that it maintains service standards without overstretching staff and allows a reasonable cost saving without any operational collapse and point to the failure of the current pilot structures to demonstrate that their original plan was more sustainable.
It's not enough to say that the system doesn't work - the CWU needs to prove it with facts and then push for a better one. However, the problem is the CWU bureaucracy are strategically boxed in when it comes to opposing this outcome and pushing too hard for the alternative might torpedo the pay deal. The CWU leadership are walking a tightrope, however, the grassroots and reps could take independent action by publishing uncensored reports from the floor anonymously, using independent press and social media to expose the pilot's dysfunction, calling for an independent review of the pilot's impact on workload, morale and service quality and frame the issues as about customer service and compliance rather than about pay or reform. In this way the CWU doesn't need to stop the reform to prove that the current model is fatally flawed.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: TRIAL OFFICES
Why should the CWU being doing OFCOM's job for them? The CWU did try and bring RM's failings to the PC's attention but nobody in Government etc seemed interested, subsequently OFCOM even went as far as suggesting there was no evidence of Tracked being given priority over mail, when we all know they are being given priority.postslippete wrote: ↑29 May 2025, 07:18Instead of the CWU relentlessly and ruthlessly pushing RM's idea of USO Reform, what they should be doing instead (if they are not doing it) is collecting all evidence of the delivery failures by encouraging its members to anonymously log undelivered or delayed mail, track all frame clearances and use photo evidence where appropriate. Re: TRIAL OFFICES
But hardly any Tracked and no collections? It's easy to walk along a road just pushing mail though letterboxes, not so easy when you have to stop every few houses to scan a packet, than stop again to deliver a Tracked item.
