The majority of managers I’ve had over 30 years have all experienced delivery, the problem is they forget about that as soon as they turn manager and follow instructions from above regarding savings and bonuses and lose empathy with their ex colleagues.
For them it's probably obey the instructions from above or get moved on or maybe even sacked.

I believe that permanent managers are expected to be able to work at literarily any DO or MC anywhere.

Do they get travel allowance/fuel costs?

All our managers are failed posties who couldn't handle doing a hard days work!

If you are a good postie stay as a postie, don't sell your integrity for a few extra quid a week! :cuppa

Before the overtime ban (that there wasn't according to CWU) some of our staff were earning more than the managers.

You have to register with Success Factors and then apply for any cover manager position that comes up in your office. You can’t apply to be a cover manager in a different office.

Then throw your conscience in the bin and expect to lose any friends you may have made.

Once a cover manager, you will discover that you can’t make the changes you thought should be made and also you will suddenly find yourself up against the union defending staff against your actions.

You will be treated like a dogs body by full com managers and will be sent to different offices where you will do the work of a com for a fraction of the pay.

You will do that for years and will quickly become the very type of manager you now despise.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
