good or bad choice,? i think probs the right choice, but i wouldn't say 'they've cancelled the strike'. they haven't. they cancelled 1 day of it. we are still in dispute with this lot. we will still be out on 30th and 1st. fair enough plenty members are pissed at the leadership. we've all been pissed at some point with them. but are we honestly going to let RM bring in the changes they want, and accept their imposed 2%. i know im f***ing not. so i will still be supporting the union regardless if this was the right decision or not. im looking at the bigger picture.

also there is a ''live event'' with Dave Ward and Terry Pullinger on Monday evening to discuss the next steps in RMG, the strike action on the 30th and 1st, and how they apply pressure in ''other'' ways. i look forward to it.

I'm surprised how many on here claim their office is clearing, ours was mullered from mid August as the overtime ban, no replacing those who leave and the sick days/holidays getting left had given some routes a good 2 York's of non tracked before even starting. Currently there are packets all over the place, and crates of IPS piled around half the walks...
On a walk today that had 2 days mail, 3 days non tracked and a bunch of random tracked from other walks piled around it

The RM management should hang their heads today should have been a day off the CWU have the high ground by calling off todays strike so far the union have been spot on. The Royal bit has now been devalued by a leadership not fit to run the great RM, they should hand over the leadership to people who care about the service who will grow the company promote letters fight the DSA cap and protect the uso, share holders can have a cut of the profits whatever they get should be split 50/50 with the workers same bonus for all.

We could've had these strikes without pickets but no less have chucked our members under a bus arranging anything the bloody stress of it all will they think on how the union has put them in a dilemma and incur cost and let's not think about most people who actually WORK. For RM the people day in day out and get people to look after vulnerable be it parents grandparents or children who depend upon uncles and aunties to get to school or child minders no thought to this other than someone getting a bloody knighthood or CBE in the next honours list nice one DAVE and TERRY thanks once again!

Well I believe the decision to cancel the strike was the right one, and well done to the CWU Postal Executive for looking beyond the end of their noses on this one with a unique response to a unique situation - one that will most probably NEVER happen again.

Public support is waning now because in today's age people only think of themselves and the here and now and want things done instantly, and if you won't or can't do it someone else will. Important letters don't have to be held up in backlogs any more with technology as a much cheaper and instant alternative. 3 days of strikes now, all I have received from the backlog is ONE letter - a bank statement. I needed to send one parcel, so I used UPS, from central England to central Scotland in 25 hours (collected noon Wednesday, delivered 1pm Thursday, and cheaper than RM!). Don't shoot me down - I am only saying it how it is for the customer.

Businesses I go to have told me that they have moved to e-mails/sending documents as attachments etc; it is win win for them, as from sending to receiving is almost instant, saves them £££'s in postage/envelopes/paper/ink/staff hours, at a time when costs are at a record high, and life continues unaffected.

Much as I completely support the industrial action/strikes and the need for a decent wage and terms/conditions, however it finally ends will play into Simon's hands; letters are a pain to the company now in their strive to become a parcels company. The less letters - the more parcels - the more need to be on par with the other couriers. Super Si has made no secret that RM is now a parcel company that delivers letters....letters will continue to decrease - no doubt about that whatsoever.

Should things be resolved to bring this current dispute to a head, it will only last until next year's pay talks - where all this will start all over again. It is just a merry-go-round, and you just keep going round and round until you do what I and many others have done - jump off!

Well the CWU called off the strike day for 9th to keep public support. What they didn't foresee was 1000's of posties running back to work to save 7 or 8 hours pay.

Knowing the CWU as well as i do 38 years of inner workings. They gave you all a get out of jail card. Due to short notice, those who do not attend will face no repercussions. If you think the CWU wanted you to go to work, think again. Just shows how weak we really are.

We are never going to win this dispute, with colleagues running back to work first chance they get. We are only 3 strike days in for gods sake. I personally stayed at home watched the news and mourned the death of my Queen.

We need to act as one or that Snap on tool of a CEO, will just play the long game waiting for us to crack.

No people went into work to save a days pay. What message do you think that sent to Semen (Sorry Simon). Now answer me this. What message would he have got if over 90% of the workforce didn't attend yesterday ?

Yesterday was a test of our grit and determination . Let me tell you we failed !

We did not fail the top brass in the union bent over backwards so they can get knighthoods and CBE's and made us the scapegoats for it. When you are at war you cannot tell the troops halfway across deadman's land call it off some bugger has died who is higher in rank than you with all your dead and injured surrounding you. This is laughable that you expected we disobeyed orders on just your say so we need leaders not some jazzed up want to be lords in the making!

We had about a quarter of the staff turn up for work yesterday, which I consider low. :thumbup

They were a bit upset because the DOM wanted then to take out all the Tracked (surprise surprise) on several duties, and they thought they'd just be doing indoor prep. :Boo hoo!

They were told, "You come into work and you do what your asked to do" :cuppa
