That’s funny, I swear that I only spend 30 - 40 mins a day delivering parcels and around 3hrs delivering post.
Maybe I’m wrong and I’m imagining it. Probably the fumes from my absolutely knackered van and the filth In my office getting to me because he’s right , he’s the CEO, he must be.

This absolutely reeks of desparation. Just saying we’re a parcel company don’t make it so, pal.
Face it, you haven’t the infrastructure and you’re working from the wrong end of the chain, maybe you inherited that, i don’t know, but Without a load more out of town delivery offices that can handle the parcels and get them out efficiently, what good is any of what’s been done? Press opportunities and artificial share pumps is all it is.
This blaming of us posties is boring now, we aren’t the ones making the investments, deciding the supply chain or causing the apparent “excess” in hours (there isn’t one by the way, it’s down to false reporting as you pay managers bonus based on it. If there is, why are ofcom investigating?) so clamping down on or cutting our T&Cs, making deliveries bigger and beating us with your little stick isn’t going to fix anything, it’ll just get worse as you’ve now lost us all.

To continue the football analogy is RM the Burnley of FTSE 100?

Years of underinvestment has lead to the "team" just scrapping by for a number of seasons and confidence in the future prospect of the "club" being vey low.

Overseas investment is secured on very risky terms and a couple of good results paper over the cracks but people playing for the "team" know what's coming.

The "team" are relegated and blamed for poor performances but it's the people at the top who have no idea of what game they are playing let alone how to play it who should be looking for more suitable employment

The same can be said of time taken to prep mail vs parcels. Easily over an hour sorting and prepping letters vs 30 mins doing parcels.
Similarly, on the street, a 30 minute loop without any mail would take less than 15 minutes.

Keep hearing the 'we are a parcel company' narrative....

Simon, are you actually winning us any new parcel contracts?

If there are contracts we could get but don't take on because letters are getting in the way....

What is the plan? totally abandon letters? Deliver them only 3 days a week? If you think we need to free up time to take on more parcel contracts you need to take this action. Let's do it! 1st class mail gets delivered within 2 days, not 1. 2nd class mail gets delivered within 5 days not 3. If people need a quick service they'd just have to pay extra for Special Delivery.

Sorted. I have worked it out for you!

You do realise the number of job losses there would be right?

But then again, thats what Simon is wanting us to fear

That is the purpose of his latest release

If you really want us to be a parcel company then go for it. It sounds like you don't want to be delivering letters at all, so why don't we stop delivering letters at some point in the near future? lets go full steam ahead with parcels. It seems like letters are holding us back and we are under the thumb of Ofcom. Most of the letters we deliver are junk mail and bills. Bills can go digital. Junk Mail nobody wants anyway. I think half the mail I deliver each day probably goes straight into the bin.

You posted this rubbish norris

You really think Simon is going to do that? All I am doing is saying to him 'put your money where your mouth is'....

All we hear is 'we are a parcel company, we need to change to be able to compete'....

I won't be surprised if in 5 years time we have the same volume of letters and parcels we do now. Nothing will have changed. Don't worry your job is safe delivering the letters as he won't make dramatic changes like that.

All talk no action.

I would.
We don't have the same volume we had 5 years ago.
Anyone who thinks letter volumes haven't dropped and won't continue to drop is living on a different planet to me.

Different offices will have different levels, where i am its old towns with lots of old people so letters are broadly the same level they have been for years, add on the new build estate we have which are heavier for packets then my office is busier than it was years ago.

They have also dropped because old people die and old people are more likely to get letters.
Old people will carry on dying and letter traffic will decline with them.

Whats a stamp cost, 98p?, Go and buy 98p worth of fuel and youll get about half litre. a gallon is 4.5 litres, so half a litre would take the average car just about 5 miles, never mind delivering a letter one end of the country to the other

Also customer > business and business > business mail has dropped off with the use of cloud computing and emails to transfer documents rather than printing them off and posting them
