Oh great, compare a part timers wage when he's on holiday and gets used the rest of year like he's full time.
Excellent choice of analogy.
Always someone gonna twist it into something it wasn't meant to be. Nobody gets used as you put it, like a full timer. If they don't want it they don't have to do it.
What would you call being 30 hours and then getting asked to come in early every single day??
And then not getting that money when you're on holiday?
Sorry but that's not twisting anything, just saying it how it is.
It's a sodding disgrace.

Leaving aside the question of whether or not a 25 hour contract is a living wage .....(it isn't)
Some people don't have the luxury of refusing overtime - rent to pay, mouths to feed etc.

We have a board with the overtime allocation and start time for part timers each week.
Every part timer is given overtime every day and you are never asked if you want it, it is just assumed you will do it.
I(f you knock it back one week, for whatever reason, you incur the wrath of the jumped up nobody in charge of the rota and you don't get any overtime for several months.)

I get asked, and I come in early (doing exactly the same work as a full timer), 46 weeks of the year 5 days a week.
And then I don't get paid those hours when I'm on holiday, unlike a full timer- then that same full timer bleats on about getting the same all year round and we get a "pay rise" and you don't, despite having an hour knocked off your week.
For God's sake if people can't see the unfairness in that there's no hope for anyone.

We (and most offices) have guys regularly doing 70+ hours a week, some part-time, some full-time.
How much holiday pay should they get?
Asking for a friend.

In my experience part timers work just as hard as full time and often get messed about on duties. I dont begrudge them any extra pay they deserve it living on 25hours. :hmmmm
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Ideally the average of what they work over the year?

I think dexydog is saying that part timers wages on holiday and on the sick are less than the hours they performed week in week out for the rest of the year. At the end of the day no one should decry the hour off the working week for full time staff or the 2.7% for part timers we will all work harder it is the redistribution of work to effect the hour off the working week. And if this is not done in a fair and equitable way the failure of management to listen too reps and the staff involved in the spirt of the agreement!
I agree with what you're saying. The problem we have is that Management and The CWU Rep are TRYING to redistribute that work more FAIRLY around the office, it's the same Old Moaners that are resisting it. :arrrghhh So really it's our colleagues that aren't entering into the Spirit of the Agreement because they don't want any more work put onto their cushy duties. :hmmmm

We all know it's the squeaky wheel that get's the oil, but to watch the same individuals tramp back, and forth, to the DOMs Office EVERY day with some moan or other is frustrating to say the least. Meanwhile the quiet unassuming posties get on with their much bigger duties without a whinge. :cuppa

Always amuses me how Royal Mail recruit people on a crappy PT contract (I agree with you it's immoral) AND then get upset when that person only wants to work his contracted hours! Some people only took that PT job because they only wanted a PT job.

I've always thought the best way to sort the problem would be to pay a decent OT rate. You'd soon see PTers having their contracts increased if the DOM was paying out 20 hours plus at time and a half (or whatever). :cuppa

Well 50 pence an hour is not going to cut it as it will not even buy you a second class stamp these days!
