Re: RMC : RMtv : Falling behind Amazon - You must do more
Just an update for you Nick.
I think I may have made things worse. There was a lot of rain today so I followed Ricky Mcauley's advice to keep the PDA dry by leaving it in the office. I may have missed a few scans along the way but Ricky was so helpful with his advice that it would have been rude if I'd ignored him.

After years of higher up management using similar rhetoric I have finally accepted that I am a useless good for nothing lazy under achieving low life. Given this acceptance I am now at peace with myself.

Re PDAs, funnily enough mine died on me today so had to go back to the DO to get another. Wasted a good 20 minutes in total. As did a colleague when his would n`t work as he was about to leave. I`ve heard that a new PDA is in the offing, any ideas if this is true, and when?

They sed the scans as you go.provided you've got a signaldenhamhoop wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021, 16:42As for the time slots regarding tracking of items it would help if the PDA's weren't the complete piece of garbage totally unfit for purpose that they are. Yet to complete a shift without either the Battery failing the PDA crashing or it just randomly deciding to lose the figures. God knows how those out of Delivery cope because it's not like there's charging points in the vans
We've heard that we should be getting new PDAs at some point, also new guns for the SD lockerWalkerX wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021, 18:15Re PDAs, funnily enough mine died on me today so had to go back to the DO to get another. When are we getting new drivers to bring the mail to the delivery offices on time?
These Agency drivers are always late.
Plus PDAS ACTUALS being checked and according to our manager there are to many stoppages on route.
Bet they only pick on the ones that do their jobs properly and go over

If it wasn't for that pesky universal service and them letters we might stand a chance of competing with Amazon or any other courier company for that matter!
You can see the way top management see things, they would ditch everything especially employed workers like us to be like Amazon, why don't they just try and get a top job at Amazon instead of inflicting us with their stupidity, I guess Amazon wouldn't touch them with a bargepole though!

Re: RMC : RMtv : Falling behind Amazon - You must do more
As usual a manager is passing the buck to hide the inadequate resourcing. Trying to give out ridiculous amounts of absorption on a daily basis and this clown still isn't satisfied, maybe he should get his arse outside and do a delivery instead of slagging off the workforce (I bet he wouldn't last long).
This is just another manager who hasn't got a clue how to manage and get the best out of people (I have to endure this nearly everday).

Great post, hope he reads it.fb1969 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021, 14:26Dear Nick
It is attitudes like yours that the CEO needs to deal with if he is ever going to get the frontline posties have trust in senior management.
By "you must do more" obviously makes it my fault that I have to walk to delivery because the company won't hire enough vans. It is also my fault that people have been self isolating and RM has a workload far beyond anything that had ever been planned for.
Really sorry about that.

Not sure what more WE can do. Personally our office is working at full capacity with overtime involved and we still can't deliver all the mail including small packages.
Sorry Nick, but you only have to look at the countless offices up and down the country that are struggling without any support. It's like going into battle without the recruitment, which is what is needed.
Looking at the graph we can't be on time every where it's impossible, and there are so many factors to play with when out on delivery. One thing that bugs me, is we are not Amazon so don't compare them against us.

I note that we scored best on the attitude of delivery staff question.
Also not every single item we deliver is tracked, we have several services that people can send packets with so no notifications will be received for those items.
After working like dogs for the past year or so this is the thanks we get. Oh and the small matter of thinking they were going to make a £600m loss and instead made about that amount instead.
Marvellous.

Re: RMC : RMtv : Falling behind Amazon - You must do more
I think over time RM is going to come under a lot of pressure to greatly increase the tracking of all parcels. Within the next 10 years I can see every parcel getting tracked with scans at the outward MC (scan before that if posted at a post office or CSP), inward MC, at the DO, allocation to walk and then delivery attempt*horcrux* wrote: ↑02 May 2021, 07:55I note that we scored best on the attitude of delivery staff question.

The customers do love their Tracked Parcels don't they? They can sit at their PCs, while working from home, and see where their URGENT parcel is. Then when we scan it walking up the drive they can burst out their front doors shouting, "Oh My Parcels Arrived"! ..... I'm thinking No Shite Sherlock I'm the one that's delivering it .... I know you've got a Bloody Parcel!SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑02 May 2021, 10:00

Then there's the inevitable, "I ordered some Tea Bags from Irrelevant Crap.com"!

Re: RMC : RMtv : Falling behind Amazon - You must do more
The thing is tracking means higher costs and that means higher prices so while it's true customers want tracking on high value or urgent items do they really want tracking on low value tat from ebay if it's going to add another £1 to the delivery cost?
We deliver the vast majority of low value items in the UK, we do that because our prices for small parcels are relatively cheap compared to our competitors , it's not a market we want to surrender by overburdening the network with technology costs. It's a difficult balance.
