Re: 4 day working week
So as it stands 37 hour week . OVER 4 DAYS THAT IS A 9 HOUR DAY. Indoor time being changed? Walk time being changed? How is floater going to cover days off (on different contract times). Overtime? How can your cover that for holidays and absences? Maybe agency?. Can't have 4 on 3 off for the few . Would need to be for all.

Re: 4 day working week
Had an update today about 4 day working week, and our union rep is now back tracking, because we’d loose 20
full time staff. For our office that’s about 40%. Whereas the ‘1 in 6’ would mean we’d have nearly everyone on full time contracts

What is your ratio of FT to PT? As from what I can gather that will determine how suitable a 1 in 4 would be.1987katies wrote: ↑06 May 2021, 17:36Had an update today about 4 day working week, and our union rep is now back tracking, because we’d loose 20full time staff. As for your office going to 1 in 6, if it keeps/creates contracted hours as they are, then it would seem the fairest solution which the union would be compelled to recommend.

Re: 4 day working week
Why is 1 in 6 even being offered/considered? We fought hard to get 1 Saturday off a month. To go back to 1 off every 6 weeks is totally immoral and shows no concern for work life balance. Bribing with extra full timers is typical smoke and mirrors management BS. We should all be fighting to improve our T&C's not selling them away for empty promises.

Most of us have only ever known 1 in 6.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑06 May 2021, 19:14Why is 1 in 6 even being offered/considered? We fought hard to get 1 Saturday off a month.

Because some of us are desperate for a full time contract instead of having to grab overtime as and when we can.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑06 May 2021, 19:14Why is 1 in 6 even being offered/considered? Re: 4 day working week
Personally I would do the shift pattern that is best for the office/'what the office wants' as long as there are no situations where people have to be pushed out.
If it means there are less full time jobs and peeps are happy with that then go for it.

Does every single person in your office get 1 in 4 off?jessicarabbit wrote: ↑06 May 2021, 19:14Why is 1 in 6 even being offered/considered? We fought hard to get 1 Saturday off a month. Re: 4 day working week
I think that has to be the case.
Let's be honest how many of these offices that stayed on 1 in 6 after 2010 to protect full-time jobs actually protected any full-time jobs in the long run?
You might slow them down a bit but you won't stop them removing indoor hours if there's not enough work to justify it so you get 5 years down the line and you've got loads of part-time staff and a s**t attendance pattern.

As a trade union shouldn't we be trying to maximise employment?
If the CWU doesn't need new members/new subs perhaps it could let us know and maybe we could all have a reduction in our weekly deduction?

Re: 4 day working week
I think we all understand that point of view but there is also a point where you have to balance that with protecting terms and conditions. I'm not talking about abusing 4 day weeks to maximise earnings but to improve work/life balance and give people more recovery time.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑07 May 2021, 15:35As a trade union shouldn't we be trying to maximise employment?
If we all took a pay cut it could maximise employment.

Re: 4 day working week
I spoke to our area rep about the options we would have. He was adamant we wouldn't getting anything worse than the current 1 in 4 and said we shouldn't have to. He seemed happy to try for the 4 day week but did say we could possibly have all full timers Monday to Friday with weekend work covered by part time including the new Sundays that he reckons are already taking off big time. He did seem hesitant about that option because he said it would probably decimate the office and mean lots of duties going
