However, if I have read the stuff from Royal Mail and the CWU, there is a time limit.

A time limit to agree a chairman?

A time limit from the date of the injunction?

Or a time limit from when they have agreed a chairman and talks actually start?

Some good points... The first thing to do on a national scale is to urge members to do the job properly... That will start to hurt RM even before a strike and that is what they should have done whilst talking instead of blowing a huge mandate and rushing to a strike just before Xmas. That was too much of a gamble - not quite the nuclear option but it would have been if RM did not back down; another strike and then strike at Xmas and then we all fail including RM.

Do the job properly but people are too selfish and I have no time for selfish people or the Union that tacitly support or too scared of rocking the boat: some privileged ones will definitely lose out when and if we start doing the job properly and getting paid for actual hours worked...

blowing a huge mandate?? where do you get that from.? we've still got and it will be put to use if/when these talks fail.

Right, I've had another read of the AFG and nowhere does it give a time limit on how long it can take to agree on a chairman.

He then has to meet both parties and receive all relevant paperwork and write a report within two weeks and then there is another two weeks to try and reach agreement.

Both parties can then decide what they can and can't agree on again

They then have to write to each other

If they still don't agree then there is two weeks strike notice.

Perhaps the union were not so naive after all, as some have suggested, in knowing RM would use the high court route.

Exactly what I had been thinking. The CWU knew from the last 18 months that RM weren't going to budge so had to force their hand all be it a big gamble given the number of picket line crossers in previous strikes and poor ballot returns.

I do wonder if the way RM have been Moya is playing the exact same game she did in Canada to force in what they do over there?

I thought it was 5 weeks then if required 2 extra weeks were available for mediation then if necessary the CWU give 2 weeks notice of industrial action. However I fully expect that RM will use delaying tactics and this will drag on into the new year.
