I started 2 months ago and so far been excellent. Training was very good, mentor excellent, manager helpful.
Days off are on a rolling rota , Monday one week then Tuesday, Wednesday etc. Always out with someone experienced to learn a new round and already done my driving with AA. I have a round local to my house and works good for me.
Contracted hours where 10:30-15:30 but they happily changed these to 9:30-14:30 to accommodate school run. All in all loving the job and my depot

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well, due to start in the next few weeks and to be quite frank I'm not looking forward to it after reading numerous threads on here. I left my last job to take on a job with fewer hours so I can help my daughter out by picking my grandson up from school but it sounds like I'm in for a battle to leave on time. I thought this job would suit me as I was looking to stop being a manager and I love the physical side of my present job so thought this would be ideal, but not so sure now

If every job had forums like these, you would never do anything! Take it how you find it, but look around if you're still unsure.

Hope you're finding it okay if you did start. I felt the same to be honest- wondered what I'd let myself in for when I read some of the horror stories on here prior to starting, but I'm happy to say it's okay, to be fair. My hours are ten to three, but I go in at nine and the overtime is claimed with no probs and now me and my partner have sussed and tweaked our duty we're always pretty much done by three...sometimes we even have time for lapsing....49erman wrote:Well, due to start in the next few weeks and to be quite frank I'm not looking forward to it after reading numerous threads on here. Quite liking the banter in the DO in the morning's too so, all in all, not too bad and the actual job itself, shoving stuff through doors is nice enough...been chased by dogs twice and actually attacked once...happy to emerge unscathed, but sadly can't say the same for the bundle of catalogues and door to doors that I sacrificed instead of my ankles
Oh, and encountered a few miserable so and sos who seem to take exception to the fact that I'm knocking on their door with a package that they ordered...gotta love Saturday mornings just for that
It's not perfect, but then what job is these days, but it's a lot better than I feared after reading some of the stuff in these parts. I find smiling a lot and not being afraid to say no helps quite a bit.
Anyway, I hope it's all working out for you.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

Think I might stop reading this forum now...it's putting me off.
Waiting for the checks to come back before getting a start date, hope my DO is a decent one.

Don't let it put you off. It is really a good job. Just management make it harder than it needs to be. Also to be fair this forum is a really good place for help and advise. Good luck with your new job.Devoned wrote:Think I might stop reading this forum now...it's putting me off.

ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
I've started on a 24hr contract but on the sign in sheets I'm on 5 day 8-3. The walk isn't finishing until 4.30 or 5 everyday will I get paid for the extra hours as long as I sign out at my actual finishing time?

Yes you will, make sure you let your manager know every morning how many hours he owes you from the previous day, he will pay without problems especially that you`re a new starter.
And write down on a callendar how many hours you worked, how much overtime you did every day and wich walks you did, it will come handy if you have to remind your manager to pay you.

Wear gym leggings under your trousers, they'll chaff the backs of your knees and crotch area for about 8 washes

Depends on the DO. Every office is run differently. My feet are on fire wrote:I've started on a 24hr contract but on the sign in sheets I'm on 5 day 8-3. The walk isn't finishing until 4.30 or 5 everyday will I get paid for the extra hours as long as I sign out at my actual finishing time?

ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
Ask your manager if he added 3 days to your annual holiday entitlement.
And next time when you get a bank holiday as a day off, go ask your manager for a proper day off.
No one can do it for you, ask your colleagues as well if you`re not sure of something.
