Royal Quest , your info is quite old the talks have moved on some considerable way since then.

Now the membership will decide whether it is a good agreement when and if it is agreed. But remember it will be over 50 pages and it will also have annexes on guidelines.

Some of us do know , but if you want me to tell you about the lump sums , the supplement , the pay rise , the shorter working week or the deal I am afaid my lips are sealed.
For the record no agreement has been reached but I am convinced their will be one if not tomorrow very soon.

Jaja the package is a deal on the transformation of the company, whether anyone like to anowledge the fact the business is in crisis. It has a pension defcit which would if it was a private company make it bankrupt. This pension defcit has increased and is not being revealed. Currently it is paying 270 million back into the pension scheme for the next 17 years but the defcit is rumoured to be double that figure.

On top of this through de -regulation we now have less work which hit the outward of the mail centre and whilst delivery members may argue about whether traffic has decreased in their office the fact remains that due to downstream access Royal Mail only get 13.5 pence per item for that work and to deliver the most costly part of Royal Mail `s operation which is the final mile. Appoxmately 60% of all Royal Mail`s cost is in the final mile.

Thirdly whether we like it or not the communications market has changed, less letters are being posted , thats why there are less deliver jobs in every office since 10 years ago. Equally more packets and fulfilment traffic is now in offices and of course Royal Mail have not supplied the tools for the job through this traffic so rely of indivduals using their private cars , or transporting HCTs out on the back of vans etc.

In addition whether we like it or not 82% of all traffic is now automated. When it is automated it is also counted either short coded or long coded but it is counted. The Mist system in which the work is counted is accurate as it is throughly tested every two weeks.

Plus the one growing area of the market is un addressed items ( door 2door ) . In Royal Mail the union sercured many years ago an agreement on household deliveries which was possibly the biggest con in history where indivuduals would be paid extra to deliver the mail whilst on their delivery. In 1994 the Door 2 Door agreement was achieved.

The reality is that due to the cap of 3 items per day plus no delivery of the items on Saturdays , Royal Mail have lost the ability of growing their share of the market. In addition door to door quality is appoxmately 75% across the county , it is hit and miss in lots of office , in some it is not done at all , in others its done by a few people known as door to door barons and in others the quality is good. £50 million pounds is currently being paid out in delivery units on door to door well below the figure of what it should be if everyone was delivering door to door as per the number of products Royal Mail recieved.


Royal intially wanted to recuirt a differnt workforce to deliver door to door whereby everyone who was recieving money for it would have lost it totally.

Instead the union has acted responsible, if work is going to shrink due to automation and it will. Those of you who have walk sequencing now well it will get worse as not all mail centres have introduced one outward pass yet so the amount of walk sequencing and the windows for this work has not yet been maximised. Once the mail centres all introduce one outward plan then the 60 -40 mail profile will come in.

So the union has said in line with the support of the conference policy that door to door must be moved into workload to protect jobs. However the union has also sercured a payment which will be paid to all within a delivery unit , in addition to a share of any growth in the product.

Plus if you cannot complete now becuase of workload well once door to door is introduced into workload then they will have to put in extra hours into your office so you can complete. However when you do have walk sequencing then I think that you will possibly have time within your duty to perform door to door in order to maximising jobs.

Lets get one thing straight this is not a case of reject the idea of door to door into workload and carry on as you do now. Royal Mail are not going to allow you to do that , that ship has sailed.

Look I have not made up my mind on any agreement , and i will read it and judge it on its merits. But please dont think things are not going to change in a way you can only imagine at the scale of.

I realise I am possibly going to get attacked again but I think sometimes we have to recognise the climate we are in. Wether you like the deal or whether you dont is up to you but please remember if you reject the deal you wont be defeating walk sequencing , the workplan change, later Saturdays , door to door being done differently , less mail centres or later starts for some or car derived vans..

Accept the deal because youre going to get worse if you dont.

I am a customer and funder of RM and true trade unionist who wants to see the CWU deliver...not look after itself as a junior partner of the employer at the cost to the members...

...and if your titbits are anything to go by...well...I am going to be completely wrong and this will be one hell of a "goody" for all those suckers who keep you tripping around those offices down south!!!!

The agreement will be enough for everyone to take in without people exercising thier personal vendettas.

Why don't you just let the people that matter in all this decide - the membership.

Their will be national, regional and local briefings (and if your branch doesnt offer you one then demand one and demand a speaker from HQ) and the full agreement will come out to all members from HQ as dingo says.

The agreement will change the shape of the industry forever. People need to decide whether it is right for them based on facts and not based on scoring cheap points.

Will this payment be pro rata, ie a greater payment for someone who delivers 700 call and a lesser payment for a delivery of 350 calls ?
