A no strike deal up to Christmas
Sign up to a wishy washy "Industrial Stability" agreement that is in all but name a commitment to never strike whatever the reason.
Accept the unnamed agreement which will allow them to make efficiency savings. If you didn't like BT2010 why would you accept that with no details.

Thats fine if you are but I, we live in a supposed democracy, but I am not. I am saddened though that so many think this is a Privatisation dispute when it clearly isn't.

I am surprise to hear from you (now)that this is really not about Privatisation. And that is the problem with CWU and our members: they have spent too much time barking up the wrong end of the stick...

This has always been a complex sets of issues mixed with privatisation, something that almost every postman opposes but which is the one thing that we alone could not do much about - that was up to the public and politicians...

CWU have not been that clear on the nitty gritty of the agreements and what they have been discussing with RM... They have made the rod for their own back - only a face-facing deal will help the Union and us all.

I think it is worse for people to vote Yes and then not go out on strike - and that is what is likely going to happen in large numbers.

Will the public support us on a strike just before Christmas and also given that many of them are now owners (through shares) of Royal Mail? NO!

I don't care about Politian's I don't care about share holders and I don't care about public opinion it is they who elected this shower of sh*te upon us all. What I do care about is a deal for all who work in royal mail not those just at the top £500k in shares not bad for half a days work a month is it. Lets get a good deal out of this not put our tails between our legs as some on here would have us all do!

You live in a democracy and it is doing well for you - thank you!

You might not care about the things that really makes thing work - in the real world.

No amount of striking or shouting from the roof top is going to get you what you want unless there is support - all around.

We go back to the same question... What is a good deal? Nothing silly mind!

* The reality is that people are now talking about a deal when prior to this they were talking about privatisation... It just goes to show that most postie do not know what is going on. Read dingo posts.

It is and it isn't. This dispute is like an onion and it has many layers.

It is against Privatisation on both a political level (which unless Labour re-nationalise we have lost), and on an Industrial Level (reminding buyers that we are still here). That particular part of the dispute will fizzle out at least till the next election (though the Cons are trying to gag it) and then it will kick off again if Labour get in.

But at the moment its more of a an industrial dispute and thats where our focus now needs to be.

The dispute is also a political one for the Union in that it needs to flex it muscles for its own and our interests. Theirs to remain in a position of influence and ours the same if you believe in Unions. If you don't believe in the CWU, or trust them to any degree then I still think you need the Union, even if you are not a member, to be a bulwark against the worst of the changes.

I am not happy with the Union and I recommended a No vote for BT2010 deal, and posted in various threads and a blog post why. But if we want any chance of influencing our terms and conditions then we need to give them a YES vote now, and we need to fight the battle now, not in 3 years time when by then then Unions influence would have been seriously undermined by a NO vote.

If we are fighting against Privatisation then yes we are too late to influence it in the short term, apart from the share price. But on the political/industrial side then this is a fight at just about the right time as it puts the board under severe pressure during the float, initial trading and Christmas pressure. Also in a strange way privatisation may help our side a little as the Conservatives will have to be a little more circumspect applying political pressure as one of their selling points is that Government interference is one of the things holding back the business.

I hope that makes my thoughts on the dispute a little clearer, or at least explain where I am coming from. :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

£300 bonus will not be paid to strike breakers

Post by VforVendetta »

Apparently the letter we received the other day regarding the discriminatory £300 bonus for strike breakers is illegal and cannot be paid. A letter has allegedly been sent to Moya from CWU solicitors informing her of this. I would advise all members to please show solidarity this time and don't be seduced by the lure of short term gain. The Government and Royal mail see us as stupid cretins that deserve only minimum wages and zero hours contracts. We know we are hard working and conscientious men and women who will fight for a job we still believe in. Losing a few days pay for the chance of a future as opposed to breaking the strike and racing towards the death of a treasured institution is surely a no brainer.
They want to rip this company apart and every postal worker with it. A three year agreement will be just that and then the bulldozers move in.
Royal mail have a twelve year plan and I am led to believe that beyond the three years they are offering, it does not look good for us.
Go on strike and be proud of who we are and what we are doing it for.

Work out how much money Moya has cost you in lost duties, lost OT, lost SA, lost night turns and lost hours for everybody.

Think of the bullying management culture she has nurtured and encouraged.

Think of the piles of undelivered parcels and mail clogging up your office last Xmas, not because of strike action but because of poor management and the complete collapse in the standard of service offered to customers.

Moya has been in charge for 1,225 days so far. That £300 works out at less than 25p per day of putting up with her making your life, and that of your colleagues, significantly worse. That wouldn't get you a lousy cup of coffee from one of the overpriced vending machines that have replaced the closed down canteens in most offices.

Mull it over during your next 20 minute break before your 5 hour delivery.
And their are people that take that break (or even any part of their break?)

Not in my office anyway(apart from me and a couple of others). We do take a break. I choose to take mine outside (if the weather is decent).

And they wonder why jobs are lost. I effing despair some days with my co-workers.

And I am the only one that cuts off. And I get snide remarks for that,

Beggars belief how you can be viewed by colleugues (terrible spelling). Does that have something to do with being part time?

No. Many full timers' spelling is absolutely atrocious.
